  1. The controversy last time was that they selected Henry over McCourt. Talk about a bullet being dodged. McCourt should have never been given the Dodgers.
  2. Using "4th largest contract in history" is embarrassing as it ignores contract inflation across the league. Rob Refnsyder will make more in his career than Carl Yastrzemski. Last year: 12th in luxury tax payroll. This year: probably going to be worse. MIDMARKET TEAM.
  3. Nicer stadium with better food.
  4. This team won because of Theo's legacy first and foremost. Of course it was the ownership group that ran him off!
  5. It's part of the reason tickets are expensive and why they should build a new stadium that has more seats.
  6. It's up to Crag to identify talent and work with Henry's financial constraints.
  7. It means they are probably busy doing other stuff this AM. Maybe why there has been no FA news recently? IDK.
  8. Need 1 or 2 of the guys I referenced to reach their ceiling or better. Maybe the new program can get something extra out of Perales, Wikelman, Monegro and Early. Time will tell. Right now, it doesn't look good though. Bloom was all about pitchability. Now, they are going in a different direction and it will take a while to get Crag guys to the MLB level.
  9. ARB raises due for Pivetta, O'Neillll, McGuire and Schreiber at 1pm today. If they don't get done, it goes to arbitration and the $$$ most likely goes up and is a pain in the ass for both sides. Sox FO likes to mess around though.
  10. What's your small business?
  11. No, just players like Rowdy Tellez who can't hit their weight.
  12. Whoever buys the Sox would have to be loaded to afford the purchase. What newer franchise was purchased and then cheapened out on?
  13. They have room to grow as they should be up to 36k a night rather than 32k post COVID. However, the product on the field looks like they are playing with COVID.
  14. Wily Mo never tripped over a bag.
  15. Northeastern used to be a commuter school. The Red Sox are a commuter franchise.
  16. Yes, doesn't make it out of April, or struggles with injuries all year, while YRod pitches as a 5th starter and eeks out 1.5 fWAR or whatever.
  17. Since you were 15?!?!? Holy s***! I had no idea about years of control until I was in my 20's. They'll have to spend big no matter what! They have zero good arms coming from the farm that can slot into front end of the rotation. Right now, nobody projects higher than a 4. Per SP: Perales - potential back end starter Wikelman - highquality multi inning relief arm Fitts - multi inning depth reliever Monegro - up and down multi inning reliever ERC - emergency depth starter Dobbins - depth starter or multi inning reliever Walter - depth starter Rogers - reliever Gambrell - up and down swingman Penrod - high minors org depth arm Liu - minor league depth arm BLEAK
  18. No, it's a weird freakin' offseason! (Originally penned by moon after the Sale trade from CHW.) Rosenthal wrote an article that can be summed up: the risk that owners run into when they extend young talent is that they can turn into Wander Franco!
  19. Exhibit A for there being too many baseball podcasts.
  20. It's not a poverty payroll overall. It's a midmarket payroll like the Colorado Rockies. They are in purgatory. The problem is that the fans aren't paying midmarket prices.
  21. She doesn't want to do coffin play anymore?
  22. Paxton is probably better than YRod, but has a lower ceiling due to injury risk.
  23. Why be worried about losing one year? Sometimes a tank year has unexpected results. If that's the pitcher you want, go get them. I'd say the same thing about a pitcher with two years control. Acquire the pitchers you believe in. Look at the successful franchises around the league and follow what they do (Dodgers, Braves, etc.).
  24. Not sure his wife can either. She had to go out and become the damn CEO of the globe for spending money.
