I think he may have been surprised by the timing, but not surprised that he left. He was probably just not ready to field questions about why the Sox couldn't keep a franchise guy like that.
1. I think they need a #1 and a #2 rather than lower rung guys like the Wacha and Hills of the world.
2. If they go with what they go, obviously Story is the best choice at SS for now. Mayer to SS next season? Mayer to 2B? Mayer to 3B? Figure that out next offseason.
3. Hedges only signed for 5M last season. That's Urias' nontender.
6. Seems like an ok plan. I have heard rumblings about Rafaela getting MIF time too.
8. I agree that they shouldn't force a LHP into the bullpen at the expense of a better arm. The bullpen isn't really a problem and should only be better next year.
Having Story play a full season at 2B or SS will be a huge help. Another year of development for Casas will help. Additional playing time for Rafaela in CF will help. Swapping Yoshida for Duran would also be a pretty big help in LF. Signing Hedges to play 50% of the games would also help. I listed a lot of fixes in my post.
1. Need at least 2 starters.
2. Figure out if Story is a 2B or SS and find a plan for the other position.
3. Sign Austin Hedges to replace Reese McGuire?
4. Where/how to add the RH bat? Duvall or trade?
5. Trade Verdugo as part of #2 or #4?
6. Who is starting CF? Is Rafaela going to be glove first CFer or UTIL guy in '24? Just give fulltime reps to Duran until Rafaela earns it?
7. Yoshida to become fulltime DH or is that part of a DH rotation with #4?
8. LH reliever?
Yet. There may come a time when he has to trade a 2nd year ARB Mayer for a starting pitcher or something. Sox are in a bit of a funk, but that can turn around quickly here. We've seen it before.

Tom Werner described the Red Sox as “full throttle” this offseason, and suggested Breslow can pursue rotation upgrades in ways he sees fit.
When the owner/muppet that actually wants to spend chimes in!
@alexspeier
Breslow says building a consistent winner will require “bold, difficult decisions,” including trades of popular players and prospects.
Yes x 1,000,000
@alexspeier
Breslow identifies starting pitching and solidifying middle infield defense as obvious areas to address. Also cites addition of a RH bat as obvious area to address.
He's one of us!
