  1. They were 57-54 on 8/6, then got to play the dregs of the league: KC, DET, WSH, NYY. After that, they turtled. This was not a very good team. Season was over when they lost 2 of 3 in OAK in mid July.
  2. Baltimore had a clearer path with the young talent they have. Sox could be in that position in '26 for sure.
  3. They'll spend less than last year and most likely under 215M. That's what I've seen and heard. Maybe they sign a platoon bat like Grichuk and sign Clevinger too? That would keep them under 215. Bringing back Justin Turner could push them over that amount, but he provides some defense at 3B and 1B.
  4. They aren't serious and there aren't many quality options left on the FA market.
  5. I don't think it's that much of a drop off from last year's overall team. The '23 team never fired on all cylinders and kind of sputtered to 78 wins. I think this team could play up to its potential and exceed that amount. However, it's more likely to be around the prior year win %.
  6. I’d trade all of those guys in the right trade.
  7. If they were in the NL or in another division, not in the AL East. 84 won’t do s***.
  8. Jansen is a great pitcher. The Sox just can’t afford his contract as they are a poverty franchise. It has been rumored that he has been already shopped around. That’s why he was a throw in here. It has nothing to do with his talent level, but where the Sox are at.
  9. For sure…………
  10. “If” they are out of it?
  11. Just as a reminder, this is how we are acting when he's not even on the f***ing team. What do you think would happen if he signed in Boston? It would be a nightmare. This would get litigated over and over in the press, online and elsewhere with incorrect info (both pro and against Bauer). What a disaster. It's just a layup to not sign this guy. I hope tomorrow we can go back to being normal and fight about the 2022 trade deadline again.
  12. For Valdez, you could extend him out an additional 3 years to age 35. It's not that big of a deal. Not every extension has to be 6-8 years IMO.
  13. Above I asked about Javier's elbow. I was referencing Garcia. What's the status of his elbow? Would the Astros deal him? He's still in ARB years unlike Javier.
  14. Raffy's defense was good enough in '19 and '22. It's not out of the realm of possibility that he can get back there. He just needs better guidance IMO.
  15. Crag has brought in a bunch of depth at C this offseason. Not really MLB level depth, but at least he's focused on those transactions. It'll be interesting to see how he evaluates Wong this season and if that affects Teel's timeline at all.
  16. For Jansen? Just insert more SP prospects since the Sox haven't drafted any in the past two decades and it's the only reason the rotation is in this mess.
  17. Two years isn't a big deal if the Sox are going to extend the player. They did it with Pedro. They did it with Beckett.
  18. It's too late... The engine is on fire... It hit the Red Sox ownership thread... We'll see if JBay can put it out. If this thread is locked by mods, it's because JBay cares more about Henry's checkbook than open discourse on TalkSox.
  19. If only! I keep exploring my body but haven't found it yet. "Not tonight honey, I'm going to drink a Pappy and Coke Zero, play Skyrim and then f*** my new vagina."
  20. And yet here posse is still here. What gives?!?!?
  21. The difference is there's a new IF coordinator, Story is a very good SS, Kiké won't be at SS, Rafaela/Abreu/O'Neilll are solid OFers that weren't on last year's opening day squad. Guys around the Braves (Ron Washington, Chipper Jones) have said that Grissom was solid at 2b and should be good there given time. It doesn't fix 3B. Maybe 1B is a little better with coaching? The catching is what it is. I think there is hope that the defense is better than what it was the first half of last season.
  22. HOU is in a win now mode and I'm not sure they'd want to give up Abreu who should factor heavily in their bullpen even with the Hader addition. Is Javier still a part of their rotation plans going forward? What's the status with his elbow? My guess is the return would be a potpourri of prospects and a starting pitcher they can move on from.
  23. Unless he's going with that 5D chess.
  24. @brianmctaggart Dana Brown on maybe adding a LH bat: "If we could somehow get a left-handed bat, preferably an outfielder with some speed, that type of package we'll pounce on it. Make no mistake, our club is really good." Crag, send Duran to HOU!
  25. We've done worse.
