Westbrook has a higher OPS than Senzel against LHP. Not sure Senzel will ever reach the ceiling people once thought he had. He's also a dreadful fielder.
@redsoxstats
BA has finally changed course for the Sox in the mocks, this morning going:
12. Red Sox — Trey Yesavage, RHP, East Carolina
Yesavage throws 94-97 with good ride on his fastball, and his slider this year had a 57% whiff rate and his split-change got 55% whiffs, both in the 98/99th percentile.
I like that profile!
I trust Breslow is doing due diligence to find moves to make this team better. Whether he has enough $$$ from Henry to make the moves, we don't know.
I disregard whatever Sam Wormtongue says now. It'd be nice to be able to like a local guy like that, but miss me with his ******** act.
The only evidence is that scouts say it, SoxProspects say it and his defense is just average to slightly above average right now. It's only going to get worse.
@MattCouture5
Justin Turner really is the perfect add for this Red Sox team
1) will likely be dirt cheap via trade and could likely get the Blue Jays to eat a chunk of his remaining salary too
2) Fits a need of an upgraded right handed bat that can play 1B
3) Red Sox fans love him and he loves Boston. Great locker room guy. Good leader.
4) Playoff experience. Clutch hitter
812 OPS vs LHP this year too.
The rumor was that he was looking for a veteran starting pitcher. No idea what spot in the rotation that would be for or what he's willing to give up. Sammy stated that FSG is willing to SPEND for any player if the deal was right.
I won't believe it until I see it though.
The platoon issue and offspeed stuff has been noted by scouts going back a few years. Feel free to be made at me about it though. I was just listing the reasons that I think he's more expendable than Teel or Anthony.
Learning to hit in his 30's is ignoring the full season total for 2021: 701 OPS. He only had 64 PA's with BOS that year.
The only reason I'd not bring him back is he isn't really a SS anymore and that's where he had the most value. -2 OAA, 6th percentile arm strength. If they are just finding another 2B/3B type, I think they can do better.
Winckowski is not a starter. I don't mind him being stretched out a little, but I don't want him throwing more than 3 innings out of the pen. They were fooling themselves if they thought he'd actually become a starter.
He wasn't sent down to be stretched out, he was sent down because he wasn't following Bailey's plan.
Bryce Rainer, SS, Harvard-Westlake HS, Studio City, Calif come on down!
What about switch pitcher Cijntje?
1. Not enough vowels in that name for it to be real.
2. Sox were pioneers in switch pitching having Greg Harris back in the day.
Or he goes to a field that doesn't allow him to have an 884 Home OPS considering how lefty friendly Fenway can be. Butterfly man could be impacted by the butterfly effect in a trade and perform worse elsewhere.
I think Sox are overloaded at LHB. If they needed to move a top level prospect, Mayer seemed like the best guy to move to me. I'd keep Teel and Anthony. Anthony has the highest ceiling. Teel has the highest floor.
Who is going to want oft injured Story AND unproductive Yoshida. Hard sell with those two. Easier to hold your nose and keep Story who can at least field competently.
Maybe we need to come up with a TalkSox tracker. My vote:
Anthony
Mayer
Teel
Campbell
Perales
Bleis
Cespedes
Fitts
Zanetello
Yorke
Arias
Meidroth
Sandlin
Rodriguez
