  1. It's easy to be really down on him because he gave up the most HR's in memory. However, he still was ok for the most part. He had a really rough stretch in the middle, but we've seen much worse out of our starters in recent memory. I think we forget that across MLB the "average starter" has more in common with Kutter Crawford than we give him credit for. The one thing that he was able to do was post, to use Cora's terminology. For better or worse, he was banged up and still managed to pitch 33 games to lead MLB. At times in '23 and early on in '24, he looked like he could be a reliable mid rotation guy. I don't know if we have enough information to definitively say that he has no shot of ever getting there.
  2. It's the epitome of Spring Training. He was running hard to 3b and got picked off by the pitcher. Why get caught in a rundown and risk injury in a meaningless game? It's not like he was lollygagging, it just wasn't worth the contested slide or rundown at that point. I'm sure Cora agrees.
  3. Arias needs to hit outside of the FCL, but I could see that happening. I think Arias is limited by his defensive issues and may be kept down a bit, unless the overall farm is kind of slagging. I'm still very high on Johanfran and if his defense gets better, he may peak higher than his older brother. I think Castro and Jordan are both trade fodder. Valera should jump up significantly the way Perales did back in the day. I kind of agree with Dobbins and need to see it over the longer term, but I like his attitude and what I've heard from him. Cason is a huge unknown. I like the ball of clay that Tolle is, but any draftee is a huge question mark.
  4. The problem was that people were saying "well I don't think it will be an issue" and some posters were all over them saying "where are your sources on that?" or whatever. We all have our own opinions on this stuff. None of us know for sure. Even relying on sports radio guys for the "inside baseball" stuff will lead you astray most of the time. Until Devers actually flipped out more than just saying "I want to play 3b," there was little reason to turn the molehill into a mountain and rundown other posters for not being concerned about it. It's ok to have differing opinions. I think we all just need to remember to not be jagoffs about it towards each other.
  5. Per statcast, he has 210 career HR's and only 170 of those would have been a HR at Fenway. I'm not sure how much the Monster will help. If anything, he could get a bump in doubles. He came from HOU which is a better HR park for RHB than Fenway per park factors, but worse in all other measures. I'm not going to get too worked up over ST results even though Bregman is typically a very slow starter (April is his worst career month by OPS, had a 577 OPS in April in '24).
  6. I think him being a current bad defender at one position and dabbling in others is how he finds his long term home.
  7. Now this is an article that speaks to me. Love it. I don't think he necessarily has to be a launch angle guy as it doesn't work for everyone. He's always had a terrible launch angle and a bigger concern is his poor K rate (31.6% career) and BB rate (3.7% career). If he could just take a walk once in a while and continue to hit the ball hard, however it gets into play, he'll be fine.
  8. The best path forward for Grissom is a UTIL guy who ends up finding a permanent position in a few years IMO.
  9. Need to field a AAA team and every once in a while need to call up a AAAA guy to pitch for a few days before they are DFA'd.
  10. Blaze Jordan? God, no. 693 OPS last year. 11 errors in 57 games at 3B. If he can't hack it at 3B in AA, he'll never make it in MLB where the game is much faster.
  11. He was better in '23 in HR/9, so there's hope that '24 was an aberration due to the knee injury.
  12. Who makes the lineup card? Casas? Raffy?
  13. 2nd most Innings in the AL East 15 QS (same as Jack Flaherty, Manaea, Keller; only 27 pitchers had more) 175 K's (tied with Luis Castillo 24th) 3.43 K/BB (27th between Webb and Rodon) 1.12 WHIP (18th tied with Bibee) If he cuts down on the HR's, he'll be fine. It's not rocket science.
  14. Wyatt Mills is going to pitch in BOS at some point this year if he stays healthy.
  15. Sean Newcomb started today's game. Are they even trying? Seems like they are PUNTING this year already!
  16. I think we're more invested in 3b than Raffy is at this point.
  17. If Raffy hit 1232 the first two months the way Manny did, those skullcaps would sell out fast. Manny also had a 1747 OPS in the 2008 postseason. Dude really wanted to be out of Boston.
  18. If he was going to be a "major malcontent" I think we'd be hearing more from him about 3b. There hasn't been a PEEP since last Monday.
  19. Ortiz began to start off slow every season ('08, '09, '10) but learned how to get himself out of that habit. This may be something that Raffy will have to learn as well as he ages. It won't be as easy to get going every Spring as he puts on weight and his body matures.
  20. Bregman, Campbell, Story and Yoshida all being on the All Star Team will be must watch tv!
  21. Crawford pitched very well in '23, but struggled at times last season. If he was indeed injured for 90% of it, maybe his true self is more like '23? Hard to really say. If his ceiling is '23, then there is at least a well above average pitcher than the Sox can try to pull out that arm.
