  1. Yeah, it's either or, not both. If they didn't have Masa, they could try to figure out Teoscar at DH but I don't see it.
  2. Scouts that saw him in FCL raved. Scouts that saw him in Salem weren't overly impressed. He's in the honorable mentions strictly because of his FCL numbers.
  3. Utley 5.4 bWAR 162 Av Pedroia 5.6 bWAR 162 Av If Pedroia was able to stay healthy through age 39 the way Utley did, may have as good of a case if not better than Utley (higher average, OBP, TB per 162).
  4. Not as questionable as the Bobby Grich omission though.
  5. Bullying works. That's how Devers was signed. We need to march on Henry's house.
  6. If he was traded out of the division, that injury may have never happened. 🤔
  7. They tend to talk a big game and be "all in" on lots of free agents prior to season tickets and the annual winter weekend. They have consistently fallen on their faces since 2019. They used to be better, but it's been a while.
  8. Grandal or Diaz are also viable FA defensive catchers. I'm not sure how long they are going to keep Teel down for, but my guess is they aren't going to spend Vaz money on the position. Maybe 6M or less.
  9. If Machado didn't take him out at 2b and he was able to have 3-4 more good seasons, he'd have a stronger case. He might be one and done with this ballot and not get 5%.
  10. Boras put 300M+ out there and a comp with the Machado contract. No.
  11. I mean, Sam Kennedy has said really dumb stuff in the past and has walked it back poorly. If they did it again, I wouldn't be all that surprised. Just like how we warned you about the impending Aug/Sept Sox collapse. We've seen it before.

MLBPA will not agree to a payroll cap and the smol bean owners won't agree to a payroll floor. The economics of baseball are dumb. The teams closest to me are the Marlins and the Rays and they don't really have a foothold on anyone. People blame transplants, but the Heat, Lightning, Bucs and Dolphins do just fine and are far all more popular than the two MLB teams.
  13. $16M to go over both thresholds. Going over for one year is nothing.
  14. 20M gets them to the 2nd threshold at 261M. They should spend that much. Will they? IDK.
  15. Oh, for tax purposes. Then I change my vote. 😎
  16. No. Offseason bluster isn't moving the needle for me. I've heard it before.

17 regular season games per year vs 162 regular season games per year. MLB is more analogous to the NBA or NHL tv models due to the length of season. MLB is known to really step in it and some of the bigger market teams have rolled over for the small market teams in the past. Changing their revenue streams may make it a bigger fight though. Why piss off the richest owners and more loyal fanbases?
  18. We've wanted the Sox to use their financial muscle ever since they traded Mookie. This ownership has been relatively hesitant to do so. The moves they've gone out on a limb for have blown up on them. Grandal has a similar defensive profile and is available as a FA. At 36, he'll be a lot less than 10M. Travis d'Arnaud just signed for 2/12. Stallings signed for 1/2.5. Hedges signed for 1/4. I think you could get a one year deal out of Grandal for 6M and not have to give anything else up. Maybe they bring back Jansen or find a cheaper option like Elias Diaz.

There would have to be some substantial concessions to the Red Sox and the other teams with their own networks in order to give up their assets. Increased merchandise %? An MLB package without the Sox and Yankees is not very appealing to a lot of folks. I also worry what this could do to the overall presentation of each baseball game. Would the Red Sox lose their local flavor? If you watch Bally's telecasts, they just aren't the same.
  20. It's taken him 90+ games each of the past two seasons to provide $6-7M in value. I don't know if there is enough playing time for him to be valuable at that price. I'm not sure the Sox are prepared to move on from Wong just yet. Wong would get the majority of the starts. His largest contract with the Sox was 4.5M and that seemed about right for what he brings to the table as fulltime starter. Anything more than that is a waste IMO. I wouldn't pay "most of his one year, $10M deal."
  21. Manson had an angelic voice.
  22. A waterslide from the Monster Seats TM down to the bottom of Fisk Pole TM. The ladder is already in play, so why not a waterslide?
  23. Maddie also garnered lots of comments with her "who to root for in the WS" and "checking in on DD 5 years later" articles. By our TalkSoxCast metrics, she's been killing it. We'll need to task her with the official "is clutch real" article once things simmer down later this winter.
