  1. Law has an interesting take on Monegro and Paez, but then calls Early's FB "meh." What a weirdo. Monegro's FB issues aren't a lack of confidence, but shape. Paez just doesn't throw hard consistently and can't miss bats with it. SoxProspects is higher on Early and believes he has the higher ceiling of the three.
  2. C'mon. STL wants to drop salary, not take on more. Please join us in the real world.
  3. If he's a 3 WAR guy, they should just take the whole contract and not give up anything of value if they can.
  4. Excuse me. Where is the Cardinals prospect that they are supposed to be giving us?!?!?!?! And the Sox have to give up a high draft pick from a few years ago? WTH?!?!?!?
  5. Tries to save face. Doesn't.
  6. 1. Baltimore slander is tired. Ravens slander is fine. 2. Spring Training games are great to watch. I'll try to go to a few. 3. Rusney was only good enough to be called up to be a 5th OFer so I don't really feel all that bad about it. 4. Thinking that if things break right for the Sox that they will win the division is WILD to me. Even if Roman and Kristian start off strong, I think they still won't be 4-5 WAR game changing type guys this year. 5. Even if Grissom is getting jacked, he should just be pushed to the OF. If so, does that help with the RHB out there? 6. Bloom did a great job of building an offensive farm system. However, he struggled building a pitching infrastructure and could not keep the MLB team competitive. He dragged his feet on making trades (had an offer to move Sale that would pay 100% of his salary and didn't pull the trigger), signed some bad FA deals (Story/Masa), went over the CBT on a last place team and those issues hurt the Sox in the long run. If he was running the Rockies, he would be commended. For running the Sox, he gets fired. The Sox need to at least be in playoff contention and not last place 3 out of 4 years.
  7. I will assume that he signs a deal before then. At worst, he should re-sign with the Sox as a reliever on a one year deal.
  8. No, they are just going to give a 3 fWAR guy over for free, pay part of his salary AND provide a prospect according to moon!
  9. He's not a FA today. You need to get him from another team. It's two different scenarios. I'm not happy about paying his current deal, but it's not onerous.
  10. Per MLB: Players who are unsigned after the start of the MLB Draft in the year that follows the rejection of their qualifying offer are no longer tied to Draft pick compensation and can be signed without their new club needing to forfeit a Draft pick.
  11. With how his defense is, he'd be a 2 win player with an OPS+ around 90 IMO. JBJ was 2-3 WAR when his OPS+ floated around 90.
  12. Unsigned players with projected 2+ fWAR: Bregman Alonso Pivetta All three have QO's attached to them.
  13. Cards are trying to DUMP salary. They have no interest in taking on Story's salary or lateral moves.
  14. His contract is underwater, but that doesn't mean your proposed trade is going to happen. I'm projecting his production to fall to 2 WAR. ZiPS has him at 3 for this year. That's an 8M difference in valuation. STL isn't just going to dump him and give a player so that you can take him. He still has some value. At 25M AAV, it's about a wash if he's going to be a 3 WAR player. Personally, I would give him a 3/48 deal if he was a FA.
  15. I don't think they need to dump Yoshida as he still brings some value to the table and will have a 130 wRC+ this year. I think we need to give them some mediocre players to take on a guy who just had a 3 WAR season, but is overpaid. That's how most MLB deals work.
  16. I'd do the Mullins and Sogard trade. Cespedes and Fitts for one year of Helsley? Pass since I don't think this is a WS contender year.
  17. They are dumping Arenado because they don't want to pay him. Why would they want anything to do with Masa's contract?
  18. If they ate the whole contract, I still wouldn't give up at top 10 guy. I'd consider Sandlin or Romero.
  19. They calculate it based on the actual loft of the ball. If it wouldn't clear the monster, it's not counted as a HR. Maybe he'd hit more 2b's? Maybe he'd continue to slug under 400 because he's middle aged and his bat is slowing down?
  20. Per Statcast: 272 career HR, 214 projected at Fenway. Why would he be reinvigorated?
  21. People have suggested a Mike Lowell bounceback comparison for Arenado, but Arenado is older than when Lowell first came to Boston and Lowell's offensive and defensive production died on the vine when he was 35 ('26 for Arenado). Are people just wishcasting for one good season out of Arenado? Arenado already had that bounceback season in '22. Why would he have another one 3 years later?
