  1. The Dodgers attendance is good for now, but it's up about 10k per game from where it was a decade ago. They HAD to do promotions to get crowds to capacity. The Sox don't. The Dodgers keep their fans happy be putting a winning team on the field. Not sure providing a souvenir cup is going to make them leave any happier than if they left empty handed. More likely, the cup is a reminder when they are at home to buy tickets in the future to come back when they see it in their cupboard. Clearly, the Sox don't have any issues reminding fans to come back to Fenway year after year.
  2. I feel more confident about Buehler only because he actually pitched last season. Maybe he was able to shake off the rust in '24 and is ready to be a bit better this time around. Gio may take a while to get his feet under him.
  3. He was definitely seen as an innings eater prior to the injury. Now, I'm not really sure if he can do that. He's at the bottom of the rotation for me. They have a club option for 14M if he doesn't pitch 140+ innings this year.
  4. He was decent at the start of '23 (2.9 bWAR in 21 GS). It fell apart when he switched teams and had personal issues.
  5. From BA: In the summer of 2017, one inning into his professional career after being taken out of Florida Gulf Coast as a 16th-round pick, Kutter Crawford experienced elbow discomfort. It was enough to shut the righthander down for the duration of his first pro summer, but not enough for surgery. But he was pitching through discomfort that steadily grew and ultimately forced him to have Tommy John surgery after the 2019 season. During rehab, he had more discomfort and had a second surgery to remove bone spurs in his elbow which pushed his rehab out further.
  6. Crawford is an extreme fly ball pitcher 7th percentile GB rate. Bello is a heave ground ball pitcher 86th percentile GB rate. The reason that more balls that are put into play are outs for Crawford than Bello are because (a) the Sox IF defense has been poor which hurts Bello and (b) the Sox OF defense has been above average to great which helps Crawford.
  7. What is an injury that causes pitchers to miss substantial time over the course of multiple seasons? TJS!!!
  8. I believe he's supposed to be a better defensive catcher, but he couldn't throw anyone out last year. Blocks and framing were fine.
  9. Bello gets the edge because he got the extension last year and had a strong second half. Does he deserve a rotation spot no matter what? No.
  10. Sox have no problem filling the seats so there's no reason to load up the schedule on giveaways that are kind of tacky IMO. Is anyone really going to a game to get a sling bag to begin with?
  11. Fielding Run Value -1 per Statcast He's not a complete dog like Wong was last year.
  12. Pitchers and Catchers report today.
  13. Buehler was pictured by the Sox PR team in camp today.
  14. They need to find a better defensive catcher long term IMO.
  15. Robertson should get a deal similar to Jansen's 1/10.
  16. 10.2 bWAR, 49 HR in 471 G pre pumped and jacked 5.1 bWAR, 47 HR in 560 G post pumped and jacked
  17. 20 lbs of muscle.
  18. Clockwise: Buehler, Masa, Wilyer, Crochet
  19. xISO uses statcast data (EV, launch angle) to determine probabilities for expected extra base hits. Since Paredes overperforms his xISO, there is an assumption on my part that he is going to fall down to earth with his baseball card numbers and it could get kind of ugly. If he's not a flyball hitter, that Monster is going to turn his HRs into 2B's which will greatly reduce his SLG. For a guy without a lot of extra base hits to begin with, less than Bryan De La Cruz, it's not going to be a big boon for him to move to a stadium like Fenway. Only 26 of his career 72 HR would have been a HR at BAL.
  20. Because an MLBer bulking up always works out! Was looking forward to committee talk again...
  21. You can get xSLG on FanGraphs too, where Paredes is 124 out of 129 qualified hitters in 2024. xISO is just calculated by xSLG - xBA and xBA is also on FanGraphs.
