  1. Bello, Fitts and Dobbins have only started 7 games total. We're already on the 7th turn through the rotation. BOS is 7th in reliever fWAR, 14th in starter fWAR.
  2. He's 24. When JBJ was 24, he had an OPS+ of 49 for 127 games. I think we can give him time. He had an OPS+ of 83 last season as a 23 year old. We were fine with JBJ having a 90 OPS+ from 17-19. Since he has show signs of improvement in some phases of his hitting, you need to give him time for the numbers to catch up IMO.
  3. Happy Birthday to former Red Sox: Eddie Bressoud, Jarrod Saltalamacchia (spelled correctly the first time), Erasmo Ramirez, Bill Piercy, Ralph Brickner I'm sure everyone here remembers Erasmo Ramirez's stint as a Red Sox. I sure did!
  4. His BABIP is 240, which is really low. Once that normalizes over a longer sample, his OPS will go up IMO.
  5. FCL starts tomorrow?!?!? Finally get to see some Justin Gonzales.
  6. Red Sox play down to their opponents. The best the Sox can hope for is a split. 😔
  7. It was the bottom of the order too when Slaten came on in the 8th. 😎
  8. His whiff rate is still bad, but it's better than what it was in '24 (down 6%) and his k rate is only 17% at the moment. All his metrics right now are solid. He just continues to chase a lot of pitches outside the zone WHICH HE HAS ALWAYS DONE AND WILL ALWAYS DO. I think he's been a little unlucky so far, but his approach is better this year than it was last year for the most part. He's walking more, hitting the ball harder, barrelling the ball more often, but there's only one issue that I've noticed. Once he gets to pulling that ball in the air again, he'll put up numbers again.
  9. Valera would be the youngest pitcher on the Salem Red Sox right now. There are two 19 year olds (Bates and De La Cruz) and everyone else is 21 or above. He's still 18!
  10. The two teenagers on GRE offensively are Arias and Yophery (high ceiling prospects). The pitchers in the league are generally much older, which is why you get the big variance for Valera. The next youngest pitcher on GRE is Paez at 21, almost 2.5 years older than Valera.
  11. I don't think middle relief in general has been the problem. Weissert: 3.65 ERA/2.75 xFIP Wilson: 4.15 ERA/3.72 xFIP Bernardino: 2.45 ERA/3.76 xFIP I think the two relief issues so far have been (SSS): Slaten: 5.56 ERA/5.18 xFIP, 43% LOB Kelly: 9.00 ERA/3.62 xFIP, 41% LOB
  12. Bright side: 11 whiffs from Houck last night, 12.8 swinging strike %. Much better than I've seen recently from him.
  13. Trying to figure out which genre of speculative fiction this is... 🤔
  14. Yesterday, Valera had 69 pitches, 48 strikes and 13 whiffs. As an 18 year old in High A, it's pretty good. Per bref, Valera is 4.2 years younger than the weighted average of all players in that league.
  15. Valera is still VERY young for his league. I don't think you have to worry about his numbers. You can even go back and look at Perales's game logs as he moved up the ladder and see his struggles. Drohan just couldn't find the k zone once he was promoted to AAA. He was then taken in the Rule 5 draft and I believe got injured and had a lost season. He's now back and trying to reclaim his value. I don't know what his ceiling is, but he could work himself into a bullpen role. IDK.
  16. He didn't look good and gave up loud contact in extras. Needs swing and miss with a runner on. It's not an ideal spot for him, but he still needs to produce and didn't look good to me.
  17. I was right about this though. I think teams that load up on LHB will cause Houck trouble until he can figure out his secondary stuff again.
  18. WTF? 15 K's in 23 PA's in first 5 G.
  19. Rollercoaster April for Devers. Due to lack of Spring Training? Other? If it's because of lack of Spring Training, who/what are we blaming it on? Training staff? Coaching? Devers? Simple timing of his injury?
  20. This is exactly how I feel about this series. Slaten has arguably cost the Sox 3 games this year: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BAL/BAL202503310.shtml And games 2 and 3 of this series.
  21. No, sir! A waste of a roster spot right now.
  22. He has until Memorial Day for me. He has to be closer to 700 by then though...
