He's been hurt multiple times. Last year, Cora vented that it was taking him too long to come back from WOO. He does his own workout routine and doesn't follow Red Sox direction. It hasn't really helped his career either. Promoted in 2022, he's only earned 2.1 fWAR. He's an iconoclast and that doesn't work for the Boston Red Sox. He's not a guy you can count on or build around. He's shown he's more likely to be out or unproductive than a valuable member of the team.
The OF being crowded isn't the worst problem in the world. However, with the Sox not meeting expectations, I believe out of the box thinking could get Anthony on the squad. He has a higher ceiling than Duran, Rafaela or Abreu.
If a hitter is near the top of chances with runners on base, they'd likely be near the top in RBI AND leaving runners on. As all old school ballplayers say "it's a game of failure where you succeed only 30% of the time."
We've already mentioned the Sox have the worst cleanup numbers in the league.
1. The extension would be cheap as he's a platoon guy.
2. Anthony doesn't want to be extended.
3. It's probably just moving on from Duran, which Alex has advocated for numerous times.
If you think about it, don't you want your hitters higher in the order so that they have a chance to hit more often (1st and 2nd)? The only other difference is the discussion about 3rd where there used to be a lot of value, but there is a belief that "this batter comes up more often with nobody on base and two outs so that position is a little less valuable." You could also say that it gets more PA's in a year than the cleanup hitter! IDK. I'm not too hard up about devaluing the three hole.
I don't think he should be thrown into first base. He's barely even practiced there. While we jokingly say it's easy to play, it would be a bad decision to throw him out there without him really being ready for it. He at least had MiLB/college experience in CF.
Instead of quote replying to the starting pitching portion, you replied solely to:
"I keep hearing that he's trade bait, but I kinda want him as my 1B next season. 🫣"
So your response of "yeah after 5 years" was very confusing!
Story's Fldg Pct at SS in MiLB
ROOK 915
Low A 949
High A 957
AA 954/963
AAA 976
It clearly takes a player a while to adjust to playing SS professionally AND the fields at the lower levels are awful.
Campbell is not a good SS. He has a weak arm and poor range for SS. If he is struggling currently at 2b, how much worse would it get at SS?
Jhostynxon didn't even pop until last year. There's no way he was advocating for him in '23 and '24 (much less longer) when he was the lesser prospect than Johanfran. I was just wondering if moon was confused and thought I was referring to someone else.
I watched a ton of Salem games early on in '24 and the Garcia Bros were a real bright spot for that team. I can't take credit for being "on" him first or whatever since there were good reports about him in ST. He didn't even become a top 30 prospect until after April '24 for SoxProspects.
