  1. The feds have a stake in shielding a rich and powerful business like MLB.
  2. He'll earn his contract over the next 5 seasons. After that, it'll just be PR. They may have phantom IL him each season.
  3. It'd have to be 3 for 4 with a HR. Even then, he'd still be behind a lot of people. The numbers are what they are. It's his second straight slow spring. His career ST OPS is below 600. He hasn't been the same guy since '24.
  4. Having to talk about this six years later is demoralizing.
  5. How is the Sox offer more lucrative? The PV value of the Dodgers offer is higher. The cash was far higher.
  6. Leadoff hitter Kristian Campbell as the second lowest average and OPS of the starting lineup (lowest is #8 Sogard). He struggled last spring as well. Not really making a strong push for anything but an extended AAA stay.
  7. Also, Ward now has 14 SB's. Second place has 6.
  8. Braiden Ward is trying to ruin his EV numbers.
  9. In a bizzaro world, everyone is complaining that the Boston Red Sox are ruining baseball instead of the Doyers.
  10. He's been good at 2b and SS too? He's put up 28 fWAR since going to LA (worth $225M) and 152 HRs. Even if he stinks in a few years, he will have already earned his full contract. He's basically the cost of Masa and Sandoval this year. I'd take Mookie over those two.
  11. Sox said 300M, Mookie said it was less and for the reporters to go talk to Bloom. If we're charitable, we can go with 300M because it doesn't really matter.
  12. Xander is 6'2" and stuck around at SS a lot longer than scouts projected. Always weird to have guys say a 17 year old will have to move off position. If it's because he doesn't field it well, fine. If it's because of his frame, I don't know if I agree.
  13. In looking at the IFA guys right now, there are probably a few different levels. Likely MLB guys: Arias, Castro Great prospects, but too soon to tell: Valera, JGonzales Mid tier prospects (rising or falling): Bleis, Cespedes, Azocar, JGarcia, Monegro, YRodrigruez Non-prospects at AA: Liendo, Alcantara, Rosario, De Leon, Sena, Cohen, Montero, Chacon, Liu Guys who haven't appeared stateside: Soto, Delzine, Ramos, Rivas, Primera, Silverio, Brito AA seems like an organizational filter for IFA guys. There are no projected IFA players on the Opening Day AAA squad. I can't be too excited about Soto being ranked #8 on SP considering how other DSL top 10 guys have shaked out recently (Bleis, Cespedes, Jimenez). Why have Rivas ranked 15 spots lower when he's already at his future defensive position, has plus tools across the board and is the same age as Soto? Is it just because Soto got the bigger signing bonus?
  14. Looks like we'll be getting some Antonio Anderson today. Maybe he's learned to hit this offseason?
  15. The 4 seam fastballs that Masa has faced: Chinese Taipei - 93.3, 8th Korea - 91.3, 17th Australia - 89.7, 19th Japan had an easy pool to get through in round 1. Team with the best 4 seam is DR at 96.5 followed by US at 95.
  16. Yeah, I understand why they traded the high octane arm of Perales. He was going to be out of options sooner than Bennett and has struggled to stay healthy. He also is trending more towards a reliever arm than a starter, especially if he staying in BOS. Breslow was also probably concerned about the bb rate. Bennett is a big bodied guy who added velo and has a decent floor as a starter. If they unlock something there, he could provide more to the Sox than Perales would have. At the very least, it delays a decision on moving that 40 man spot to BOS.
  17. They were so dreadful at 2b and 1b (0 fWAR combined), it isn't hard to see them taking a step back at 3b, but overall being better as an IF unit.
  18. The first round of "cuts."
  19. BOS 2B 0.7 fWAR '25 BOS 3B 3.7 fWAR '25 Can this year's 2B/3B crew average 2.2 fWAR at each position and match what they did last year? Durbin should probably get to 2.2 or slightly higher. Mayer and a platoon over at 2B? Maybe if Mayer can stay healthy and keep IKF off the field as much as possible?
  20. I think they dropped less to graduations and more due to all the offseason trades as you note in a follow up post.
  21. Most IFA players don't work out. Of the guys you list, only two should make it to AAA this season. Having a bunch of guys listed who haven't played stateside yet shows that the organization is pretty weak IMO.
  22. Dodgers extended him for an amount that was closer to the "ridiculous and unreasonable" number than what the Sox offered.
