I just don't think an Abreu for Paredes trade makes sense due to the additional 2 years of control. Sox aren't in a hurry to move an OFer now. HOU would have to really wow Breslow with an offer for Abreu. HOU just had Pena hurt his finger. Deal probably doesn't get done.
I think with the IKF signing, they are showing that they are trying to maximize IF defense.
Durbin was an above average 3b. Story was good at SS until the EOY. Mayer should be well above average 2b. Contreras is an above average 1b.
If they swapped Story and Mayer, it would be a very good defense for sure.
If he had a second tool, it would make sense. He only contacts the ball. That's it. For a bench guy, that's not great. Contact with speed or defense? Great! Maybe if he had an unbelievable platoon split you'd hold onto him, but it's not the case.
It's not that we hate Masa, we think the roster needs an adjustment somewhere because it's very clunky. If the Sox want to compete for the playoffs and succeed there, it's not going to be with a no power/no speed/LF only guy sitting on the bench.
I was trying to decide between Arias and Godbout. I went with Godbout because I believe his bat is a better carrying tool. Arias has great defense, but hasn't shown much offensively IMO. He might end up just being a UTIL guy.
The guy that Japan blasted early this AM has 8 innings in the ACL, a few years in the Chinese league and had a 13 ERA pitching in the Independent League in '22. Not a high quality arm there.
Ward hasn't really been on any national prospect lists and self admittedly signed "for a chicken sandwhich" as a 16th rounder. I found him on a Rockies list from a few years ago in the 30's. He's always been a guy that has taken a while to go from level to level (2 years in high A) for various reasons.
I'm not entirely sure about SP's rules on age and how they determine prospect eligibility like Watson vs Ward. National lists tend to be more age based. Pipeline doesn't list Watson in their top 30. That seems to be the list used to build the breakout roster.
