  1. I think it comes down to a few things: 1. The way the players train and how their bodies are built. I think their overall build these days is more prone to injuries. 2. The constant max effort (especially in terms of pitchers and spin/velo) directly influences injuries. 3. There is a lot more $$$ in the game today. To protect your investment, it's better to hit the IL than do whatever it takes for a playoff run.
  2. Oh, CAREER performance. Well, then you should worry about his 4.32 ERA in MN, not his current 6+ ERA I guess! Obviously he's going to trend that line down by the end of the year, so we should be looking for some sweet positive regression!
  3. Sox only have control over him for 1.5 years. If they can sneak decent value out of him for about $2M at most, I don't see what the fuss is. I hope he pitches lights out and gets a big contract out of some other team.
  4. Law has been consistently HIGH on Arias. Interesting to read his notes.
  5. They kind of fell apart in '21 and needed to back into the WC, so I guess it's been 4 straight years of struggling down the stretch?
  6. After the last two series, the remaining schedule drops off considerably to like 12th toughest. Sox just have to stay afloat this week and then not fall apart down the stretch the way they have the previous 3 seasons.
  7. Went from being the #2 starter to the closer in the blink of an eye. Not sure why he bounced around so much after his injury. He was a very good reliever.
  8. Why do I care how he pitched with Minnesota? His 14 appearances here have been good enough for me. He's going to regress, but he seems to be a capable middle reliever. He's very good a limiting hard contact. If he can keep that bb rate low, he'll be just fine. Bailey found a way to reduce Chapman's bb rate. Now Alcala's is half of what it was in MN.
  9. Perfect technique by Kelly, who takes a guy right to the ground and pounds on him. Coco Crap dodges a punch, barely registers with his punch and then is immediately thrown to the ground. Sad showing! Tim Anderson-esque?
  10. I was at the Brett Myers game. It went well for the Red Sox.
  11. Kelly was good for such a small amount of time, but he gets bonus points for fighting. Still a bad trade. Craig was awful.
  12. Here's one: 2014: Rich Hill to LAA for Cash He wasn't SP Rich Hill yet, but it was around the time that he was looking to transition.
  13. You're not considering the value they got back. John Holobetz SP #33 Yophery Rodriguez SP #42 Marcus Phillips CBA pick #33 Those guys could be anything in 3-4 years!!! They could even be as good as a Quinn Priester!!!
  14. Per the article above, "his cost will be substantial." Therefore, each one of my posts concerning Cease has referenced the word "overpay." I'm directly stating "if it's an overpay, I don't want Cease." If it's a fair trade, I'm nonplussed about a Cease trade.
  15. I didn't mean to pile on. I just read from oldest response to new and respond as I go. 🥺
  16. I'm not for overpaying for Cease. He doesn't do it for me. He's just a wildly inconsistent guy and if you simply want to lengthen the rotation, you can get a similar option with a cheaper deal. If he's pitching this bad at Petco, I don't want to see him at Fenway.
  17. There already are key injuries IMO. Mayer could be out for a while and there isn't a good solution at 2b. They will end up putting Rafaela at 2b most likely, which helps the offense, but hurts the defense (Masa will have to put on football pads to play LF with Duran out there apparently). Bregman is now physically limited. We don't know if his leg will get better over time, or if it just needs offseason rest. Dobbins is out. Tanner is out. Significant 60 day IL: Casas, Crawford, Winckowski, Slaten (all expected to be contributors prior to the season)
  18. Murphy really wouldn't have had a starting role until 2010. He probably would have been dealt at some point just like Josh Reddick was. They used to manage the OF roster crunch by dealing players.
  19. That trade worked out for both teams. Sox needed an experienced starter and the O's needed young talent. Boddicker contributed to two playoff runs (9.1 fWAR, 11.4 bWAR) in his 2.5 years with the Sox. Schilling didn't become a very good starter until '92 and had already been moved from the O's to HOU to PHI.
  20. The same wrist he had an issue with in '22 that had him miss a month. This was just caused by him swinging the bat and not a contact issue, correct?
