  1. Santana's career WAR is almost double Buchholz's.
  2. Peavy vs Porcello
  3. My expectation for the staff this year was "hey, just keep us in the game and allow us to compete for the division." So far, so good.
  4. And the guy that was the replacement would most likely put up a 120 or worse ERA-.
  5. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/columnists/ron_borges/2016/07/borges_david_price_not_a_rip_off_so_far Price has faced four No. 1 pitchers, and the Sox are 1-3 in those games. In the losses, they twice scored only one run. Price was exemplary in two of those games, losing a thrilling 2-1 pitchers’ duel to the Giants’ Madison Bumgarner on June 8 in which he went eight innings and allowed only three hits and two earned runs, and less than a week later losing 3-2 to the Orioles’ Chris Tillman in a game in which he gave up five hits and three runs in eight innings. One can hardly argue he failed to do his job in those outings. Then there was Sunday’s loss to Masahiro Tanaka in which he was hit hard. The point is against the aces, Price has pitched pretty much like an ace himself, but the bats went silent. So yes, David Price has been a bit of a disappointment to date, but not as big a disappointment as you might think because had the booming bats of Boston simply made their average amount of noise in his 20 starts, the Sox would be 16-4 in those games. I will defer to the professionals.
  6. What good is an ERA- differential if Buchholz can't stay healthy? I'd rather the extra 50 innings a year. Otherwise you have to add Buchholz's ERA- to a AAAA player.
  7. I agree. They could have dumped all of those salaries eventually anyway.
  8. Yeah, Santana is far and away a better pitcher than Buchholz.
  9. Interesting starting point as the data is skewed by Santana missing half of 2015 with an injury. Buchholz has pitched 150 innings or more 3 times. Santana has pitched 150 innings or more 8 times and is well on his way to make it 9 this year.
  10. So we made a trade a week in advance in order to dump a guy that we had yet to sign. Um, ok... If we had signed AGon after CC, maybe you'd have a point.
  11. The only problem is that his changeup and slider are basically the same speed.
  12. http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-scouting-director-cardinals-astros-20160718-snap-story.html MLB could discipline the Cardinals, possibly with a fine or a loss of draft picks, but has said only that it looked forward to getting details on the case from federal authorities. "Now that the criminal process has been completed, Commissioner [Rob] Manfred has asked the Department of Investigations to conduct a complete investigation of the facts in this matter, including requesting information from the appropriate law enforcement authorities," the league said. "The commissioner hopes that the investigation can be completed promptly to put him in a position to take appropriate action." I think what happened was the Astros complained about the hack and the FBI stepped in before MLB did any real investigation. The hacks occured during the draft and at the trade deadline. I think they should lose a few draft picks next season.
  13. If the Cards get punished less severely than the Sox did, you'd have to wonder about the person calling the shots.
  14. It means he takes the ball every 5th day and we wouldn't have to rely on the AAA scrubs. He's probably a better get than Sonny Gray at this point. Is he better than ERod? http://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=3200&position=P
  15. You're referencing the wrong AGon trade. The trade that dupree and A700 were talking about was the trade to bring him to the Red Sox, not the one to trade him to the Dodgers. To me, they should have kept Rizzo and not signed Crawford. Signing Crawford to play LF is one of the most confusing signings of the past decade. Signing Pablo after already grabbing Hanley is a close second.
  16. Don't complain to me when the Orioles pick him up in the offseason and he's in the All Star game next year.
  17. We are destined to do this forever.
  18. Nothing written by Bill Simmons is a must read.
  19. That sounds like a terrible affliction. I'm sorry.
  20. Well, Damon actually doesn't want to come back if you remember his Tigers days.
  21. He's not really a fastball pitcher anyway. He throws a good mix with the majority of his pitches being offspeed this year.
  22. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=3200&position=P#pitchtype It's averaging 92.5, so it's not a concern. He seems to be the same pitcher he's always been.
  23. If he hits .240, he's better than Leon. He's a 27 year old catcher coming into his own. Is it that big of a surprise that he could be a moderate starter? Suzuki is 5 years older and has way more mileage on him.
  24. Sure it is. Why wouldn't they pick him up. His upside is better than anyone that will be better as a FA. Might as well keep him, unless they can move him for a better guy.
  25. I guess I have too much other nonsense to worry about in my life than wondering if the Yankees are doing ok.
