  1. And his numbers showed it the following year.

    The Cubs

I've hated them since the 80's when they let Punky Brewster into their dugout during the playoffs.
  3. The point still stands that you can't expect that kind of overuse out of a 41 year old guy with injury concerns and diminished "stuff." Why have him lead your team in appearances? It makes little sense to me. How effective would he be in the postseason if he pitched 70 innings in the regular season?
  4. He was on pace for 68 games. I overstated when I said approximately 80. It was more like approximately 70. I was thinking we were at around 83 games in, but we're at 91 games in.
  5. Who is iortiz picking tonight? Someone send a pigeon to his house.
  6. I know. I know. I'm a Robbie Ross superfan or something... But that guy is a solid reliever who gets little to no credit on here.
  7. Also, Ross has a better FIP and WHIP than either Hembree or Barnes.
  8. That is true, but Koji was leading the team in appearances by a lot. Barnes is the only other guy above 30 appearances that isn't on the DL.
  9. Ross did fine when given the opportunity last year.
  10. Prospects tend to flame out, especially pitchers. If Pomeranz is solid for the next 2.5 years, it's a great deal.
  11. So like his AAA performance last year then?
  12. I think they said Basabe v 2.0 would be somewhere 10-13. I thought it was interesting that the reason Basabe v 2.0 was way down the list was because the Basabe's switched numbers from the prior year so they were confusing them for most of the preseason. Those kooky Basabes.
  13. I want to see what Brian Johnson has before all is said and done.
  14. IMO, most of those guys don't have "second division regular" in their future. I think they often rely too much on "ceiling" than what the most likely scenario is. They are a great resource for sure. That second division notation bothers me for some reason. I feel like they are too quick to give a prospect that designation. I get it though. They can't completely bag on everyone and they are honest that there is a substantial drop off after the top 5 or 6 prospects.
  15. They have seen him 3 times. Each time out they've hit worse against him than previously. He had a great performance the third time he pitched against him. For reference, he faced them twice in one week pitching 13 innings and only giving up 2 runs with a WHIP under 1.00.
  16. Plus, that gun was running "very hot" according to Soxprospects. It probably wasn't a true 105. Maybe 102?
  17. Was on pace for his most appearances ever.
  18. To me, that's a slippery slope. What if JBJ gets popped? Do we then move on from him if it was a one time mistake?
  19. Cain v Pomeranz
  20. The only PED guys that I wouldn't want on my team are ARod and Braun. Of all the PED guys, those guys are the most despicable to me.
  21. I believe he can be a decent reliever. He just needs to produce consistently. I'd be scared of his high wire act in high leverage situations.
  22. Because of the AS break. He was on track for almost 80 appearances. Ridiculous.

    The Cubs

Mookie Wilson and Ray Knight are no longer there. I don't care about them. They could win the WS and it wouldn't bother me. It would actually do well to annoy Yankees fans for a while if the Mets got a few rings. I'd be into that.
  24. I like the info these guys have, but some of the production values are very lacking. The whole time they were talking about Pomeranz, I was surprised they didn't get more in depth on his cutter that he developed this offseason, but that's probably because they spend more time scouting prospects than valuing major leaguers. The point they made that I most agreed with was Dombrowski determining the market value for a starter at the deadline and using his prospect stash to fill a major league need. I thought I'd hear more tears about Espinoza leaving, but they didn't sulk too much. The one thing that generally bothers me about Soxprospects is that they value almost everyone as a "second division regular." Maybe that's the ceiling for most prospects, but you can't project everyone to be that.
  25. Yes, that is a very solid Fangraphs Tribune piece. I highly recommend it to everyone.
