    Only 11 players hit 35 HR last season. Only 5 went 35-100. People ran Devers away. Sox chose not to sign Schwarber, Alonso or Murakami last offseason. I don't think there's a chance they sign Lowe this offseason. I just don't see this team having a 35 HR guy in the near future.

    I think it just means you have to make sure that your backups can actually hit. Romy used to be able to hit. Duran used to be able to hit. Gasper hit this season. Just don't fill your bench with David Hamiltons. Go find the next Rob Refsnyder.

    They lost because their offense disappeared and their bullpen became a mess down the stretch (even though they were relying heavily on it). Whitlock - injury Slaten - injury Guerrero - injury Miller - ineffective

    Durbin could be a starting 3b, but he better be hitting 8th or 9th! The problem is that this lineup also had holes at SS, 2B, C (Wong), LF (Duran) and DH for most of the year. Hard to sneak 5 bats into the 7 - 9 spots.

    They fell to 26th because Duran stopped hitting, Durbin plays 3b, Story got hurt, the Cs were terrible... Part of it is losing Bregman, but not all of it. Contreras out SLG'd '25 Breggie.

    Of course. They also believe the 2026 Sox should have won more games than they did. There's a good chance they run the same playbook and hope for 90 wins.

    I have no clue what Breslow will do. If the previous two offseasons are an indicator: trades will make the biggest impact and Duran/Story/Masa will still be in Boston next Summer.

    The guys that are signing 1-2 year deals aren't the upper echelon guys that tend to hit big. Sox take little swings in FA and aren't finding much impact there.

    I think it's more to do with posters arguing that JH won't eat contracts like that and doesn't have an appetite for 300M deals. It's not that we don't want those guys, we've just seen really great players get dumped because our very rich owner decided he couldn't afford them anymore. People are just arguing within those confines of what can probably be done.

    He didn't get called up because there is going to be a lockout and anyone on the 40 man can't workout at team facilities after 12/1. They'd rather keep him off the 40 man for now.

    The only thing I disagree with is: "When a player has to seek outside counsel to find his swing, something is awry inside the organization." Guys in every organization now have outside trainers. His situation was far from unique. While I can find fault with how they are specifically training up guys (the one size fits all approach), I don't think someone working out elsewhere is a red flag at all. The only reason we heard about it was due to his massive struggles and the sudden turnaround. However, we can also point to a pretty clear regression at the end of the season. I'm sure he was still working with those other trainers when his offense fell apart at the end of the summer. They were just not so quick to scramble for likes on IG in September when he could no longer hit.
