    The top of the lineup just wasn't good enough, especially without Roman. If Jarren isn't going to bounce back, they need to move on. They need move guys that are legit threats at the top of the order. Aside from Roman and Contreras, nobody else really is a 1-4 guy IMO. Wilyer should be hitting 5th or 6th. Same with Adley. Maybe Mead could slide in there, but I'm not counting on it.

    There were some great players in that draft. It's just that they aren't all taken 1-10! A lot more development happens in MiLB than people want to give orgs credit for.

    Mark Appel was the #1 pick that year!!! Clint Frazier? Kohl Stewart? Colin Moran? Kris Bryant, Jon Gray and Austin Meadows worked out. The other guys in the top 10 either weren't notable or didn't sign.     If there was a demand it was probably Rafaela or Abreu rather than an MiLB guy IMO. Arias is a good prospect, but I think there's enough of a prospect package you could have made up at the deadline to match that value. You couldn't match the value of an MLB guy like Rafaela or Abreu though.

    MIL was 2nd in OBP last season, but only 9th in wRC+ (3rd this season). They are a slightly better team than they were last year (higher OBP, better SP, higher DRS). They were receiving a lot of accolades during the year last year, but his could be peak Brewers baseball in 2026.

    Except that all reports at the time were that Arias was NOT included and the deal fell apart after the Adley deal was finalized. Therefore, I would assume the deal fell apart because it was centered around guys in the Adley deal.

    The tough part is that the Sox were picking at the back of the draft for most of those years. You could really only compare them to the other very competitive teams like the Yankees. The years they fell off, they ended up finding a good player here and there (Beni, Teel, Montgomery). Ball was a miss, but not every top 10 pick makes it to MLB anyway.

    They all scored runs though, except for CLE. CLE just had the easiest path to the CS. LAD, MIL, TBR: top 6 wRC+ (could be the best indicator)

    Not a lot of defensive highlights that I saw for sure. Saw some Deversesque plays at 3b. To me, he swings like a RH'd Stanton. He doesn't have that big swoopy power swing like Papi or Schwarber. It's not one of those textbook LH'd swings like Griffey either.

    Breslow keeps everything close to his vest and pulls moves that we don't expect. It's virtually impossible for us to project what he'll do no matter what he says at a year end press conference. The team is no longer in the 78 win doldrums. The offseasons have been interesting. It could always be worse.

    The only thing I heard was that Arias was NOT included, so to hear "some sources say he was the centerpiece" is just really odd.

    Sato is somewhere in between the skillset of Okamoto and Murakami. He can fake it at 3b, but should be a LFer. He's more athletic than Murakami, but less power. More power than Okamoto and his glove is a downgrade.

    No reliable sources had Arias as the centerpiece of the deal. Who was it?

    I'd consider an Elly/Anthony deal. Do the Reds like his extension? Anthony was on the IL at the trade deadline.

    It would pay him through his age 34 season. Really banking on him being healthy going forward and he hasn't been the past few seasons.

    Your initial worry wasn't Manny and Ortiz backed up each other, but what if one of them got injured? Manny and Papi didn't miss considerable time while they were together from 03-07. We don't really know what would have happened. Yes, they need more sluggers! Some may need to be on the bench too!

    Story, Duran, Narvaez, Mayer all playing like dogdoo is like 75 of those runs.
