Hernandez is NOT a decent 2B. We can say SSS, but in the SSS we have to go on, he's a poor fielder.
It makes more sense to do it for the winning run rather than the tying run. Even if he's thrown out, it still goes to extras and the Cards had blown through that pen in one inning.
