  1. He'd get a good going away prize the morning after though.
  2. I actually think it just means it might wind up being a wash. I don't take much stock in home vs road splits and extrapolate them to a playoff series. You can do that in basketball and football because the playing fields are uniform. In baseball, there is too much of a variance from one park to the next to really project performance like that.
  3. Which is why they should have signed EE in the offseason and promoted Devers earlier so that we'd have a much bigger cushion.
  4. Who cares what the reaction in the gamethreads are? It's easy to read those 10 hours later and complain about a post. No one is saying that all outs on the bases are stupid. Stupid outs are stupid. Posters have complained about Farrell teams running the bases poorly for many years on year. This year, there are a ton of prime examples. If the organizational philosophy is to be aggressive, great. I just want the organizational philosophy to also be "don't run the bases like an idiot."
  5. Yeah, that's a bad one too.
  6. Saves are an arbitrary statistic that tell you how many close games a team has won. Is there a difference in performance if a closer pitches a scoreless 9th and the team wins by 4 or if a closer comes in with a 3 run lead and gives up 2 runs but still finishes the game? I think people just have different belief systems regarding where certain types of hitters bat and it's perfectly fine for fans to question Farrell about it. I think fans care about that much more than they care about total saves.
  7. Running from 1st to home on a game winning run that is at best a bang bang play is aggressive. Hanley trying to stretch everything into a double is stupid. The triple play was stupid baserunning. JBJ getting doubled up on a ball hit to the wall is stupid.
  8. Nope, that certainly means that the Sox would lose on the road AND at home. RIP 2017 season.
  9. WC play in game is a game to get into the playoffs. I want them in the playoffs before the end of September. The less crapshooting the better.
  10. He was brought in for his glove. A below average hitter and slightly above average glove isn't good enough for 1B here. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=3086&position=1B Maybe his glove is just overrated to begin with?
  11. http://www.pressherald.com/2017/08/15/on-baseball-for-those-in-the-know-devers-success-was-inevitable/ “It’s nothing out of the ordinary. That’s Devers,” said Sea Dogs catcher Jordan Procyshen, a teammate for three seasons. “I think he’s not going to let any moment be too big for him,” said Sea Dogs teammate Mike Olt, a former major leaguer with the Cubs and White Sox. “His natural ability will take over.” “I don’t know what people are surprised about this,” tweeted former Sea Dogs infielder Mauricio Dubon (now in the Brewers’ organization). “He’s been doing this since he signed!” “He doesn’t just want to be good. He wants to be great. And he works hard at it.” Febles praised Devers’ defense, which has greatly improved since 2015, when he was considered a liability at third base.
  12. Right. Winning a game with an aggressive baserunning play doesn't make up for getting thrown out by 10 ft, triple plays or other nonsense we've seen. Aggressive running is fine. Stupid running is stupid.
  13. AL Most Valuable Player Carl Yastrzemski will take part in the ceremony along with Cy Young Award winner Jim Lonborg. Other notable players scheduled to attend are Mike Andrews, Gary Bell, Bucky Brandon, Ken Harrelson, Dave Morehead, Rico Petrocelli, Billy Rohr, Mike Ryan, Jose Santiago, Reggie Smith, Lee Stange, George Thomas, and Gary Waslewski. This only lists 15 guys, but lists Rohr and Bell who I didn't catch. Maybe the 17 were the 15 I mentioned with Bell and Rohr with Moses not counting? IDK. Globe story doesn't list Fischer or Landis who were definitely there per photographic evidence.
  14. http://www.bostonherald.com/sites/default/files/styles/gallery/public/media/2017/08/16/081617soxms06.jpg?itok=JWQEuKAG Another version.
  15. http://mediadownloads.mlb.com/mlbam/2017/08/17/images/mlbf_1735555883_th_45.jpg I'm too young to help out with names if I don't have the back of the jersey. Take a look.
  16. I don't buy into the Butterfly Effect.
  17. Mine are always in a bunch.
  18. They gave up 3 top 100 prospects. The Sox didn't have that to give up. It's not up for question.
  19. Addition by subtraction when you get rid of clubhouse cancers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Especially since these guys are a .500 team on the road.
  21. Brentz OPS: 1.059 Castillo: 1.085 You're right. Brentz is about the same as Castillo, but much much cheaper.
  22. WC game appearances don't count. Sox need to win the division.
  23. So the players don't need coaches then?
  24. We'll never know so here's a strawman argument. Um, ok?
  25. Sox didn't have the trade pieces to make it work the way the Yanks did.
