MIAMI — When the Florida Marlins picked Junior Felix from the California Angels in the recent expansion draft, they were led to believe that he would turn 25 in October. That, after all, is the age at which he is listed in baseball's official record books.
Now, however, they're discovering that their "young" right-fielder is at least 30, and maybe even as old as 35.
The club asked Felix about the fact that his hair had turned predominantly gray. He was listed at 24, but he told them that his family had a history of graying prematurely.
"We're aware that Junior probably is older than the records say," Marlin General Manager Dave Dombrowski said. "But it's not a big ordeal for us. We're going to live with it. He's our right fielder."
