If the Sox thought Swihart's defense was "adequate", he'd be getting some reps. It must be pretty ugly for him to not even get a shot at this point.

He's got the next 300 AB's to determine if he's on the team long term or just becomes a bench player. There's enough time for him to turn it around. The problem is that we have this discussion every year about him not hitting. He'll then get really hot for a month and his numbers will end up ok for the year.

There aren't many viable hitting catchers. JBJ has the ability to be better. Vaz doesn't.

All he wants is personal stats. He wants to go 30/30 this year. Let him do it elsewhere. This team is about wins NOT personal accolades. This is what I believe so it must be true.

Yup. There's a difference between throwing s*** at the wall (Bailey/Hanrahan/Melancon/et al) that we've seen in the past and valuing the right players. If they wanted to overpay for Kimbrel and two other versatile arms in the pen, I would be hesitant to say it was a bad call. However, as bullpens get more expensive, the Sox will have to maximize value elsewhere.
