As an MLBer, your body physically declining by 1-2% is a massive shift though. That would get you out of the game by age 35 for many players. Only the greats are hanging on after then and it's mainly due to name recognition to sell tickets.
He also has a nice LD and GB rate and really works RF/CF which is the largest part of Fenway. If he was a flyball hitter, it wouldn't be ideal. For Donovan, it could work to his advantage.
Corey Seager
- only one season +135 games since 1/1/18
zero seasons of 100 RBI
zero seasons of 35 HR
led MLB in doubles twice
runner up in MVP once
He would need to repeat '23-25 in order to get into the HOF. If he falls back at all, he has no shot.
There would be an injury somewhere and he can play 2b, ss, 3b. There'd be room. I don't think they are adding that many guys this offseason though. I think it's not going to be a game of musical chairs.
They can afford it. They don't want to. We understand they don't want to. We are trying to figure out how to work within their dumb budget. JH wants the Sox to be a midmarket team while raking in big market #3 revenue dollars. It's just the reality we find ourselves in. It's the same way in Texas. 🫠
ST results don't do a lot for me. Many of the games are against MiLB pitching or guys just running through the motions. He could really use a full season in AAA to work against LHP and offspeed stuff.
Story only has two more seasons. If you send Mayer to AAA for '26, it's not a big deal. Mayer can be injury insurance for any of these 3 guys and they'll probably need it TBH.
