  1. His last ARB year is the 16M in '28, not your listed 8.5. His 20 AAV in '29 and club option '30 is about the FA value he'd get IMO.
  2. Bello would also have a lot more trade value if he didn't have the extension.
  3. Montgomery hasn't OPS'd 800 at AA yet, but they'd push him to MLB? Crazy.
  4. Coulombe should be a pretty cheap signing. Last year he signed for 1/3. He might not be a backend guy anymore, but I'd rather throw him out there in the 6th/7th than Moran.
  5. The Sox would have paid them less via ARB and FA than these extensions. The extensions vs fWAR argument just shows that they would net LESS value. Meaningless. It's not even a counterpoint to say "well the extensions were worth it." They've been fine players, but neither of these guys are going to break the bank after their ARB terms are up. The only value in extensions is adding the additional years. Bello could get 2/40 after his ARB is up. Is that drastically cheaper than his FA value? Rafaela is getting 3/40. Is a glove first guy getting more than that?
  6. Still kinda are. I don't think either guy would get more in ARB + FA than what their extensions are giving them.
  7. Yairo Munoz held the award at some point.
  8. My guess is that they'd be more likely to add relievers that get put through waivers before considering adding a guy that has never appeared in an MLB game.
  9. To me, Sale was a risk, which is why I'm not really broken up about the trade.
  10. People on here debated the top 3. Only one real sicko wanted Manaea here. The other 4 weren't mentioned as options at all.
  11. Walker Buehler is back! He was great in the postseason! Just ignore the NLDS start where he gave up 6 runs!
  12. His MiLB contract is what hurts his chances the most.
  13. It's less about a time machine and more about "stop throwing money down a well while putting budgetary restrictions on a large market (by revenue) team."
  14. If they got him for cheap in '24 when he was rehabbing, maybe. They spent too much on a guy who had about 10 good innings in the previous postseason after a pretty dreadful regular season. It was no different than how they signed Pablo "he's good in the playoffs" Sandoval. They brought him to BOS and the results mirrored his LAD regular season in '24. We're talking about a guy with two TJS's. When you get the second one, it can really be a career ender. This season, he had to settle for a MiLB deal.
  15. Just FLOPPING into another postseason appearance.
  16. The Sox would have been better off not splurging on Story and waiting for Swanson. I think we all know that by now. Bloom just wasn't experienced at building an MLB team. He's good at drafting hitters and collecting young talent, but you can't really overlook his shortcomings.
  17. They sign these mediocre injured guys and don't even consider going for a guy with upside like Woodruff. I don't get it.
  18. I would probably add Sandoval to that list too. He hasn't pitched in games yet. Seems like a guy to get a short IL stint rather than a 60 day IL like Romy and Casas. They already said that Casas will not get into ANY ST games this year. If that's the case, they probably should leave him in Ft Myers until May to keep him out of the bad weather up North while he rehabs.
  19. If you're wondering about the Italy/Mexico game that determines USA's fate: if Mexico wins while scoring four or fewer runs, Team USA is out. If Mexico wins while scoring five or more runs, Italy is eliminated. If Italy wins, Mexico is out no matter the score.
  20. If they lose, it's because of the very light starting pitching group. Skenes could throw twice, but Skubal only was going to throw once. Everyone else on that stuff is rough.
  21. Gasper has a good shot at a UTIL position in AAA. He's great to have in the org on a taxi squad this season.
  22. If Judge stays healthy, they'll make the playoffs again.
  23. I think the Sox should beat current expectations and I don't think the Yanks will lead the league in runs again. Grisham 129 wRC+ seems unrepeatable Trotting out 38 year old Goldschmidt seems foolhardy Aaron "wrong side of the aging curve" Judge could be due for an injury What I'd worry about is an MVP type season from Jazz.
  24. That 758 OPS in '24 was one of the biggest miracles in modern Red Sox history.
  25. Braden Ward among Sox players over 14 AB's: 448 AVG #1 543 OBP #1 16 SB #1 13 H #1 10 R #1 His OPS is 3rd (1026) behind Gasper and Monasterio. Ward definitely wins the ST "let's talk about this rando guy" award.
