    TBH, it's hard for me to figure out what they are doing lately. In? Out? Spend? Dump contracts? Nobody on HERE really knows for sure.

    3 out of the 4 are LHB as well. Plus, they have an 18M LHB already signed to be DH. If they didn't have Masa, I'd just rotate Anthony/Abreu/Duran through DH.

    I wasn't arguing. I was bringing up two players that could further the point. Two guys that could help the BoSox. Two guys that people on here have talked about bringing in.

    I don't think you can play favorites with those 3 if you want to be a winner. You have to very good all around. Sox have said they want two bats and need better defense, but we don't know their path forward TBH. The only Sox WS team that punted on one of those 3 areas was the 04 Sox and defense.

    And the Sox seems to have a very low risk tolerance for those contracts now.

    So you get the 6 WAR up front with Marte at a premium cost. With Mayer, you may get more WAR and a controlled cost over a similar term. If the Sox were all in on winning a WS in '26 or '27, I'd be all for the trade. It just seems like they are one foot in and one foot out. If so, it doesn't make sense to go for the short term guy at the expense of the long term one.

    Ketel Marte regression could also push him behind a few current players. He did only hit 102 wRC+ in '22. He's also a switch hitter who would have lost about 50 HR's if he played every game at Fenway per Statcast.

    Duran is a pretty big upgrade here.

    Only 7 batters hit above 300 last season. Bichette was one. Yandy was another (name mentioned via trade here and there).

    Why do I care? Do the projections earn them anything going into the season? Home field advantage in the playoffs? Reduced tax penalties? Better beer draft selections.

    Who cares? What does that matter today. Even if he liked Duran enough at the time to say "draft Duran," isn't there enough scouting and analysis since then to provide an outsized opinion based solely on their professional time? I don't think being in the org at the time of acquisition matters at all for Duran or Bello. It would matter for a guy that was recently signed, but that's about it.

    Duran was 34th in fWAR, Cedanne was 38th.

    SD was top 3 in ERA last season and 18th in runs. That's what the Sox would be. YUCKO! They also went 90-72. 🫠

    I haven't seen "the right package" on TS that I'm willing to part with for Mayer (at least recently). In a Joe Ryan deal? Ok.

    They also don't want to go over the 2nd CBT threshold. A high AAV for a plus defensive SS, isn't helpful to the Sox right now. Maybe in '28?
