  1. @ChrisCotillo Checked on this today: Paxton is still throwing bullpens, not yet at the point of facing live hitters. He told a bunch of us in Toronto at the end of June that he was hoping to do live BPs either week of ASG or week after. Targeting mid-Aug. return.
  2. @WEEI Pablo Sandoval says he wishes he never signed with the Red Sox
  3. Ok? Tell that to the Red Sox.
  4. 440/13 years? Seems fair to me.
  5. Problem is, that's how a lot of the Bloom moves are, just adding to the "depth."
  6. @Travis_Sawchik One big down arrow: attendance. It's down *20%* since 2007 peak, or a pace for the loss of 16 million ticket buyers. It's down 14% since Manfred took office and it's down 7.5% this year compared to 2019. Attendance decline is happening faster during the Manfred years. Conversely, NFL set an attendance record last season. NBA and NHL have been largely flat at gate, taking out COVID-impacted years. This is an MLB-specific issue relative to other major sports.
  7. The only problem with that is that the more divisions there are, the easier it is to fall into last place. Also, the Sox won 78 games that year, not really what you think of when you envision a last place team. There were 4 teams in the AL worse than the Sox. There were 7 NL teams that had a worse record than the Sox. The 2004 Yankees do deserve some level of ignominy, but it's been 18 years at this point. It's like the 1918 chants and Bill Buckner stuff. At some point, it doesn't resonate with me anymore. I believe the Mariners fans, those that actually exist anyway, have suffered enough. 27 WS doesn't matter. It's not even the real Yankee Stadium anymore. The WC game last year was fun, but this rivalry is just kind of played out IMO.
  8. What about Holiday Inn to Hampton Inn?
  9. @alexspeier Red Sox prospect Triston Casas expected to return to the WooSox this weekend.
  10. I just don't see the Sox making this trade. Dombrowski? Sure. Bloom era? No way.
  11. If not giving anything up??? I guess... The definition of low risk, low reward. Don't want him hanging around on the 40 man through 2024 though.
  12. I would have said it's like going from Dr Bob to Mr Pibb. It's still not Dr Pepper.
  13. The Angels' problem is that they can't supplement their star players with anything from their s***** farm system. The Dodgers can keep adding from a stacked farm. Sox could add a $35M Soto and keep a $30M Devers. It's top heavy, but doable IMO.
  14. @itsbrianbarrett 550 plate appearances since the start of 2021 (215 players) Dominic Smith .645 OPS - 200th .345 SLG - 204th .112 ISO - 191st 0 Home Runs in 2022
  15. It would be very weird. Reminiscent of letting Lester go and signing Price the following year.
  16. BTV: Wyatt Olds for Dominic Smith
  17. @ChrisCotillo The Red Sox have discussed trading for Dominic Smith with the Mets
  18. Yup. It's a crazy price. Reminds me of the Herschel Walker to Minnesota deal.
  19. I believe moon has had several "missives" regarding Bloom's moves. A lot of them have been of the "dumpster dive" ilk (Osich, , but that was really out of necessity. Good: Rule V drafting MLB drafting International signings Plawecki Perez Pillar signing and trade (Wallace) Workman/Hembree trade (Pivetta/Seabold) Renfroe signing Kiké Shaw 2021 Iggy 2021 Schwarber trade Robles trade 2021 only Schreiber Letting ERod go Wacha Hill Refsnyder Strahm Bad: 2020 bullpen 2020 starting rotation depth Peraza Marwin Gonzalez Garrett Richards Barnes extension Chavis trade (Austin Davis) Diekman Not having a predetermined plan for Houck/Whitlock going into 2022 Undetermined: Betts trade - (Verdugo/Wong/Downs) probably good Renfroe trade (JBJ/Binelas/Hamilton) - probably bad Beni trade - (Winckowski) probably good Paxton Story Xander/Raffy decision
  20. I'd trust TBR's drafting over Bleacher Report...
  21. I've never seen a montage that was throw runner out/hit a bomb/throw a runner out/hit a bomb/repeat 5x. Great stuff.
  22. @brendan_camp #RedSox sign University of Connecticut catcher Matt Donlan @UConnBSB Threatening both at the plate and behind it is the best way to describe Matt Donlan Along with having a knack for delivering in the biggest moments, his defensive skillset is invaluable, with a cannon of an arm unmatched in the NCAA. Hope to see it at Fenway soon! #UConnBred UConn made a nice little video package of him. The arm looks legit. https://twitter.com/UConnBSB/status/1549802575804907520
  23. People said this about Raffy forever. He figured it out.
  24. Until it actually happens, it's actually knowledge that you'll gain that may push out something useful. Also, it's a pain in the ass to find out some of this esoteric MLB rule stuff. Yes, let the podcasters deal with it.
