  1. Garrett Whitlock has been dealing with hip tightness in recent weeks. It could at least partly explain why Whitlock's performance lately has been up-and-down. Whitlock normally runs outside and on stadium stairs in between starts, but the training staff might have him switch to running on a treadmill instead to see if that helps his hip problem.
  2. 1b, 3b, lf
  3. I'd just DFA one of the arms. They have to reduce the number of arms they can have in the pen by Monday anyway.
  4. @redsoxstats Dave Bush tells @jcmccaffrey that in a few weeks if Sale is throwing well they'll decide if they want to bring him back and finish his progression out of the bullpen, or if he will go through his full progression in the minors and return to the rotation around the all-star break. I'm not against Sale pitching in the pen exclusively this season if everyone else stays healthy. Seems like you could ramp up Houck to start if you had to.
  5. The last two lineups were head scratchers. It was like when I'm playing a board game with one of my kids and going out of my way not to win.
  6. He deserved that going away party last season in Fenway. Maybe he even deserved another extended run this year. It just wasn't meant to be. I think he got way more out of his career than anyone of us expected when he was first called up.
  7. Aging slugger on the wrong side of 30. He was the oldest 32 year old I've ever seen. Since the start of 2019, he's not been a viable MLB player though.
  8. Has a corresponding move on the 40 man been announced for Refsnyder yet?
  9. Bogey rested because they are easing him back from injury. Story was out because of the noted 4 k game last time out vs Ohtani.
  10. But it doesn't appear he's the closer? More like a fireman role?
  11. Also, if they have to leave someone on the bench, they'd rather it be Refsnyder than Duran.
  12. It's too bad his catching makes Gary Sanchez look Johnny Bench in comparison.
  13. Someone has to keep you in line.
  14. Duran can be recalled, but Cora said he wanted IF to rest Bogey/Devers/Story for a few days. They'll call up someone else in a few days most likely.
  15. Sawamura called up to take Strahm's place when he went on IL. Brasier called up to take Robles place when he went on IL. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/teams/BOS/boston-red-sox/transactions/
  16. "Position-players" who are optioned to the minors generally must remain on Optional Assignment for at least ten days and "pitchers" and a "two-way players" who are optioned to the minors generally must remain on Optional Assignment for at least 15 days. (A "position-player" optioned to the minors during Spring Training generally must remain on Optional Assignment for the first ten days of the MLB regular season, and a "pitcher" or a "two-way player" optioned to the minors during Spring Training generally must remain on Optional Assignment for the first 15 days of the MLB regular season). EXCEPTIONS: The only exceptions are if the player is traded or claimed off waivers, recalled as the "27th man" for a doubleheader (second game of the doubleheader only if two games were scheduled after a postponed or suspended game from the previous day), or is recalled to replace a player on the MLB Active List (26-man roster) who is traded, claimed off waivers, or placed on the MLB Injured List, Bereavement/Family Medical Emergency List, or Paternity Leave List, or the Restricted List (but only pursuant to a suspension or administrative leave resulting from a violation or possible violation of the joint MLB-MLBPA JDV policy or a suspension resulting from a violation of the joint MLB-MLBPA JDPTP policy).
  17. Well, his great-great-great grandfather could have changed his surname back to Weiner, but I don't think the jerseys would have sold as well.
  18. Not quite. Youk had an OBP of 504 as a 22 year old in A ball with 73 BB and 31 K. Kavadas k's way too much.
  19. Dinger video
  20. Would there be similar complaints if it was Randal Grichuk, Nick Castellanos or Whit Merrifield?
  21. 79 wRC+ is fine for JBJ.
  22. I expected the team to be competitive. To be near .500. The team sucked.
  23. @redsoxstats Red Sox playoff odds are above 50% for the first time since April 24th.
