  1. At some point, Henry figured out that we're all good little piggies and we're all just going to slop up whatever the Red Sox give us year in and year out because we were raised this way.
  2. Because so many under 30 starting pitchers make it to free agency...
  3. This ownership group has done so much at this point just for PR (Tito's on pills, Popeye's Chicken scandal, etc.) that it's hard to believe anything they say at this point.
  4. The goal isn't "cheap and slam dunk," but find a guy better than year 2 of the James Paxton Experience IMO. I don't think they'll pick up the full 2 year/26M Paxton deal, but stranger things have happened. I really doubt Paxton will take the 4M player option he has on his end if the Sox decline.
  5. And I don't think that offer even placated fans. Fans in Boston are too smaht to fall for that kind of ********.
  6. If it's "just" a one year contract, does it matter?
  7. This is what I said above: Guys that could work out if they signed and depending on the contract: Rodon Nola deGrom Bassitt Kershaw Morton I'm not sure what "reasonable cost" has to do with anything as this is a Free Agent market we are talking about. Slam Dunk + Reasonable Cost really isn't a thing, right?
  8. Back to the original point: there was a guy on the Sox once who used to take the first pitch all the time and it was maddening. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/mookie-betts-605141?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb In this case, the stats back up the idea that in 2018, Mookie Betts swung at less than 10% of the 1st pitch of an at bat. It was frustrating sometimes, but he was also having the greatest year of his career. This year, Mookie has swung at 30%.
  9. Aren't they going to be over the luxury tax threshold anyway?
  10. Your post was: "Under Henry, there is a long history of making an offer to a star who is nearing free agency, and then not budging or barely budging from that first offer. Here's a list of a bunch of guys:" It's hard to read anything else from that post.
  11. I think they were tired of his s*** too.
  12. Use the stats to support what your eyes see. If the stats shows something else, you need to keep watching and maybe re-evaluate. Just using stats is not the right way to do it either.
  13. Advanced metrics show us that Franchy was -4 Defensive Runs Saved at 1B in 360 innings (about 40 full games). That's really terrible. -28 UZR/150. As for Duran, he was -9 Defensive Runs Saved in CF in 408 innings. Again, that's really bad. Some people were saying "oh, his speed will make up for his lack of instincts," but analytics can support our conclusion that his defense was a nightmare. He was worse in CF than Franchy was at 1B, almost twice as bad.
  14. I'd rather them have someone else in mind for the 4th OF slot that Refsnyder can beat out.
  15. Did they offer an extension to Adrian Beltre? This is the first I've heard of it!
  16. In this list, you've included Kelly, Workman, Porcello, Beckett, AGon and CC. Did they ever offer extending AGon/CC/Beckett from above what they already signed? I don't remember hearing this? Kelly and Workman were relievers who left and nobody was all that concerned about. Porcello? Did they offer an extension to him? Ever? Were they talking about extending Nomar/Pedro/DLowe at all? I don't remember that happening either? I think they just saw those guys as getting older and letting them out the door.
  17. Or the rancor is overplayed and the players were really just venting frustrations about their friends leaving.
  18. If the rancor wasn't enough to keep the players from re-signing, why mention it at all? It means nothing then.
  19. I'm not sure I want Pham on this team in 2023. He's a LF only guy. I think I'd rather the Sox find a RF glove and move Verdugo back to LF.
  20. How many pitches did he throw this year? How much will it cost if they decide to use him for two years?
  21. That's why the eye test doesn't work actually.
  22. If they are going to bring back Wacha, Hill and Eovaldi, I think it says more about how horrible this offseason's batch of FA pitchers are.
  23. YoU wErE iN tHe ClUbHoUsE?
  24. Expensive dice roll. Remind me to never let Bloom take my money to Atlantic City.
  25. I think they decided they weren't going to re-sign him.
