  1. Again, BILLY BEANE HAS WON ZERO ALCS GAMES SINCE BECOMING A'S GM AND HAS ONLY MADE IT THAT FAR ONCE. At some point, you need to get over that hump. Just being "competitive" and never re-signing your guys is not enjoyable. That fanbase has no hope. From the list I mentioned, I'd rather be a Mariners fan who has never made it to the playoffs (better ballpark), Twins fan (better newer ballpark and recent FA acquisition history), Toronto fan (Bichette/Vlad and money spent) and maybe even a Milwaukee fan (young stars, recent success and better ballpark). So maybe the A's fans are on par with the Reds, Pirates and O's? A's are more assured of wins from time to time, but have a worse overall outlook from year to year as ownership will never pay their players, their MiLB players are treated like garbage and ownership has threatened to move the team for decades.
  2. As a fan, why do I care about how much money is spent per win?
  3. This is your replacement for Bogey
  4. If Beane comes to Boston instead of staying in OAK after 2002, do the Red Sox still win 4 WS or 20? I think that's the question we need to find out. Also, can there be an alternate universe where Moneyball happens at Fenway and the dreadful Fever Pitch happens in East Bay with some crust punks?
  5. 26 years and only 1 trip to the ALCS and the were swept. So I guess A's fans are better off than: SEA MIN BAL TOR MIL (maybe? they have gotten much closer to WS) PIT CIN It's not really saying much. Also, they have a stadium that was in need of a teardown 20 years ago and an owner that has no interest in re-signing any of their players. There is never any hope for the future for that ballclub. It's just an endless shell game and playing footsie with other cities to see where the next stadium will be built. Being an A's fan must be like living in purgatory.
  6. Your samples have never shown that though. I did see an interesting factoid yesterday that Plawecki has the worst pop time in the entire league. I don't see him coming back next year.
  7. For example: @brendan_camp Transaction: SS Ricardo Cubillan assigned to Portland Sea Dogs from Greenville Drive. OF Tyler Esplin assigned to Greenville Drive from Portland Sea Dogs.
  8. Is he only up because Refsnyder and Duran are with Boston? Will he get sent back down if they are sent back down to WOO? That does happen.
  9. @SmittyOnMLB Red Sox top prospect Triston Casas (ankle) hasn't played since May 17. He's in Fort Myers rehabbing. "He's moving. I think he started running the last week," Cora said. Cora said he'd find out more info and provide it tomorrow.
  10. Granberg promoted, at least temporarily, to AAA. Portland's best hitter this season (.304/.427/.467) while that lineup has really struggled, and he has hit .292/.366/.469 in 109 games across 2021-22.
  11. @SoxNotes Red Sox pitchers own an MLB-best 1.79 ERA since May 31. In the last 75 years, that is the team’s 5th-lowest ERA over any 14-game stretch. Apr. 8-25, 1988 (1.57) Aug. 22-31, 1967 (1.74) July 29-Aug. 12, 1962 (1.76) Apr. 4-18, 2001 (1.78) May 31-June 15, 2022 (1.79)
  12. Welcome to baseball in the year of our lord 2022. People now treat prospects as if they have actual value and you shouldn't just dump them mindlessly for a middle reliever. This is a baseball forum. We are going to talk about everything. If we just talked about the players on the major league team it would be f***ing boring. How long could we talk about Christian Arroyo for? It's nice to dream on some younger players. Good organizations are able to integrate young players from their farm system onto their major league team. It's one of the main reasons the Yankees are in 1st place this season.
  13. Refsnyder has a decent OF glove. His bat is the problem.
  14. It's always on the table for them. I can see them not re-signing Xander, trading for some guys at the deadline, getting a Wild Card slot and not doing a whole lot in the playoffs. The question is: would that be considered a success? I'd rather they deal off Xander if they can't or won't re-sign him and any other expiring contracts. I think losing in the WC or first round isn't a particularly successful year if you aren't securing the long term success of your team. Maybe ownership considers that a success? Maybe some fans consider that a success?
  15. Groome's numbers would look much better if he didn't have the second outing of the year where he only go through a third of an inning and then the 8 earned run performance at the end of May. While he's looked pretty good in June 1.59 ERA, 17 IP and 1.24 WHIP, his k/bb of 13/12 is not really getting it done. He's not striking out enough guys anymore and he's just walking way too many. His FIP this year is 5.08.
  16. The benefit of playing teams like the Rays and the Jays is that if you take 2 or 3 from them, you picking up games in the standings. I think Bloom needs to see what he has here. If the team falls flat, he'll need to deal. If they play well, maybe he rolls the dice and tries to go for it again.
  17. If they are going to be doing deals, it will be to help clear the 40 man for next offseason. This could help as Quintana and Bell are on expiring contracts. I'm just not sure if it brings enough long term value for Bloom.
  18. The A's suck ass right now, but kuddos to Winckowski for pitching well last night and to the bats for staying hot.
  19. No, he just needs to see if he's worth a 40 man spot for 2023.
  20. He stated that the MLB ball is just a little squishier than he is used to and comparing it to the MiLB ball which has more raised seams. This is similar to other things we have heard about this year's ball.
  21. At my age, Julio Franco was still a positive bWAR player, so I got that going for me.
  22. 2019: Not a playoff team They then deal away their biggest superstar. 2020: One of the worst teams in the league Are you suggesting the expectations were that they were going to get into the playoffs in 2021? Bloom said they would "compete" and I think most people said "that means 84 wins."
  23. That is a different argument. Also, my post is directly referencing a former poster who used to go around saying he knew more than everyone because of his extensive baseball knowledge. At the end of the day, the outcome is what matters. With Cora, he's won a WS and snuck into an ALCS with a team I think most people thought wouldn't make the playoffs. I think he's a very good manager. Aside from Tito, he's the best Sox manager of my lifetime.
  24. @ChrisCotillo Jarren Duran is joining the Red Sox today with Christian Arroyo expected to hit the COVID list, source confirms. @alexspeier first. Unknown if Arroyo is positive but he was scratched yesterday due to illness.
  25. I'd rather watch a prospect pitch than watch some of those lineups they put out against the Angels last weekend, honestly.
