  1. I'm not lamenting the loss, just stating that they had high level depth and used it in trades recently.
  2. At least get our writers' names correct. If the only thing you are going to use is fielding percentage, you are shooting yourself in the foot. Story has been DREADFUL since the beginning of September and it's not getting better. Every defensive metric, including fielding percentage, has Story as WORSE than Mayer right now. Story used to be better, but he has aged off the position. It's what happens to guys in their 30's.
  3. HIs arm issues were known at the time of the FA signing. It wasn't a surprise when he finally missed '23.
  4. That's less unpopular than trading an OFer that can no longer throw (Roman) in a package for an IFer with power. The other more tradable OF asset would be Rafaela, which would move Duran to CF. I've heard that his name comes up a bunch in trade requests and the Sox could probably get two quality arms for him. Maybe giving up on Story playing defense just pushes Rafaela back to 2b for the remainder of the year. I think they deal Masa at the deadline and eat a certain amount of '27 $'s. They are holding onto him for injury insurance for the short term.
  5. And IF Story is really the team leader people say he is, he should be MORE willing to accept a move to a new position. Maybe he is willing and Cora just doesn't see a problem yet? Seems obvious to most everyone else. Even if you have to platoon Mayer here and there, I think you can run out IKF or Monasterio once in a while at SS and it'd be fine enough.
  6. The ones that don't are only listening in on radio and have missed several important innings.
  7. He reached towards his back when it happened I guess. That may have been to just stretch out his arm.
  8. Fans do expect too much from this ownership (who have never done anything wrong). 😍
  9. It's not highly likely for sure, that's why I said "maybe."
  10. Brown must have given really bad postgame interviews or something.
  11. I've made the point before that MAYBE they are holding the door for the hand off to be Story to Arias, but they've already moved Mayer around a bunch. I don't think there's an issue moving Mayer to SS short term and then moving him to 2b or 3b down the road (at least to me).
  12. They view him as a guy they really would not like to trade. Also, they are comfortable with him paying 2b, SS, 3b. We definitely know that. If there's a preference going forward to one over the other? Don't know.
  13. They spent money on Willi Castro (2/12) rather than bringing back Rodgers. 🫠
  14. I would say that he has not shown that he's capable of moving veteran position players to new positions or even starting that conversation. The defensive miscues and other ongoing issues with the team (on and off the field) are causing me to question how good of a manager he really is.
  15. I think this is what most of us have thought going back to the offseason. It doesn't make sense to have him at SS or hitting high in the order. Put him lower in the order and take some pressure off.
  16. Yes, he's the worst modern era starter in the HOF followed by Jack Morris and Jim Kaat.
  17. I mean, Felix Hernandez isn't in the HOF (yet). He had a better peak than Johan and that peak lasted longer. Kevin Brown's '96-'00 was better than Johan's best 5 years. Kevin Brown may be the most underrated pitcher of all time TBH. 76.5 fWAR, 7 years above 6 fWAR, Another highly underrated pitcher: Rick Reuschel.
  18. Elbow inflammation for Valera. Will reevaluate in the coming days and determine if an MRI is needed. Per Hunter Noll who was watching: "He didn't look too pissed, and slapped a teammate on the butt as he left the mound... hopefully nothing too serious. Didn't notice anything on the pitch... Valera asked for a mound visit in the first inning, so maybe something was bothering him then, too."
  19. You sure it won't be the White Sox?
  20. Nobody thought he was a potential fix except on here. He was just filler for the WOO roster.
  21. We already had a stockpile of starting pitchers this offseason. We dealt them in deals that included Gray, Contreras and Durbin (though that trade was mainly for the draft money and pick). If we wait long enough to develop more guys, another few years will have passed.
