    That's an if. I think Romy is taking the Refsnyder role, acting as a platoon DH and sometimes playing OF. Mayer is the fulltime 3b. They acquire Donovan via trade for 2b.

    If JH was on board and DD had the buy in, things could have kept going. That just wasn't the case.

    I don't think DD would have been able to keep the train going. He was acting like a one man band at times and didn't have a lot of friends in he FO per Speier reports. He wasn't meant to last very long here. They got the one WS out of DD and were ready to move on once there was the WS hangover.

    I think DRS and OAA tell us more about the defense than dWAR does.

    Post Devers - Pre Anthony Injury Red Sox: Rotation was 3rd in ERA, 22nd in xERA, 2nd in LOB% RP was 2nd in ERA, 22nd in k/9, 17th in bb/9, 3rd in BABIP, 4th in LOB% 107 wRC+ (same as it was with Devers when the team felt like a .500 team) The run was entirely due to the pitching being on a hot streak and really didn't have much to do with the hitting.

    They just signed Gleyber, why would they trade him?

    Contreras had -1 DRS, 6 OAA and 4 FRV at 1B so not terrible TBH. Even good 1B don't have high dWAR on bREF (Moreland -3.5 career, Mientkiewicz -0.7 career, Keith Hernandez 1.3) as that position is kind of penalized.

    Theo and Ben were given a lot of wiggle room to spend. I think there was just a change in mindset after 2019.

    Uh, 9 1st place finishes and the last WS was 1991. The team has also did a huge selloff last year and fans are not happy.

    Some owners just want to take more and more distributions out. They don't really care about the product on the field as long as they aren't the 2024 ChiSox.

    Charlie Hayes was a decent 3b. Von Hayes barely appeared there.

    They aren't going to sign anyone to play DH, especially not for 20AAV. Marte is supposedly off the table. There is no way they should do Duran, Witherspoon AND Harrison for one year of Peralta if they've already traded Tolle. Peralta also has a very high bb rate and was lucky having a 2.70 ERA but a 3.85 xFIP. His pitch mix doesn't scream Breslow to me either. This is the one deal that really doesn't make sense out of the 3.

    And if the Sox are paying him 8M this season, another 4 fWAR year is 24M surplus. Duran's value seems fair. Paredes does seem a little low. I don't think we always get to know the backend of how it's calculated over there.
