    RE: Payroll. Why is it such a big deal? Some teams win throwing money at problems (2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2018), some teams win being annoying cheapskates who exploit inefficiencies in MLB's market or being real good at drafting (2006, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015), some teams do both (2017, 2020, 2022). It's not the approach, it's making the approach work. I think Bloom will eventually spend, but he's trying to build up sustainable farm team a la Dodgers and then throw money at the right talent. That's the strategy I like as well.

    Let me rephrase that: He's a "after the weather heats up" hitter. His .815 OPS in April is the worst of any month not named August, which is a month in which, for some reason, the Red Sox are almost always terrible.

    Not trying to be a quack here, but maybe he's pressing trying to live up to the contract? Who knows? He's a second half hitter anyway.

    Song was a rule 5 draft pick from the Red Sox. If the Phillies don't call him up and keep him there for the required time, they have to offer him back to the Red Sox. The Red Sox don't have to trade for Song.

    Nothing would make me happier than to see the Yankees trading/demoting a guy with as much upside as Volpe. But I think they'll let him play and he will eventually break through.

    I really want them to roll until Duran as long as possible. That kid has talent.

    Refsnyder can play some IF in a pinch, which Duvall cannot, and he's a righty bat on a lefty heavy roster. I don't see it.

    Refsnyder has a 117 OPS+. He hasn't hit for much power, but that should normalize as the season goes along. Why would he be on the chopping block?

    That's kinda not how baseball innings economy works. Every non-out is productive, and the less he swings at balls, the more productive he (or any hitter) will be overall.

    They can't even pitch to the teams that are s*****. They have a 4.93 SP ERA, and that's taking into consideration they've somewhat improved in May.
