  1. Then correction: He stinks *now* . Also has a bad attitude.
  2. I also think it's safe to assume that Henry's expecting results that improve the bottom line. Out of the playoffs ain't it.
  3. .500 against the good clubs and .700 against the bad clubs gets you to the postseason.
  4. No, I get the point. What I'm saying is that it's not about him taking more pitches, it's about swinging at strikes.
  5. Good point though.
  6. I've always preached the idea that the main sign of a stealthily bad team is surprisingly beating the good teams, surprisingly losing to the bad teams, scoring when you're not pitching, and pitching when you're not scoring. Those are all things this iteration of the Red Sox have excelled at. Buyer beware.
  7. Then again, a good way to make up ground in the standings is beating bad teams. But if the Angels series is any indication, well, we're f***ed.
  8. That's not it. Dude likes to swing and swing hard. They want him to swing hard at his pitch.
  9. This series gave me heartburn.
  10. I believe in Duran long term. Too many tools and too good and approach to not become at least serviceable at the ML level.
  11. Ceddane Rafaela Pitchers per plate appearance (P/PA): 2022: 3.65 2023 (so far): 3.60
  12. Fair point. Then again, a dude from the Dominican Winter Leagues is better than Kluber.
  13. Wacha sucks. But there were a lot of other options.
  14. That is, unfortunately, the mark of a bad team, pains me to say.
  15. That's an indictment on the Sox, not a compliment for Pivetta, for one, and we're talking about current Pivetta. His year's worth of a good run is the outlier, not the norm. As a700hitter would say, he stinks.
  16. It is bad if you're not providing IP. ERA is juat a part of a pitcher's value. You're arguing a silly point honestly.
  17. Then let's take it by point: A 5th starter who can't provide IP and has a 4.55 ERA is still bad. To be considered decent, even at the #5 spot, you either provide IP or provide run prevention, Pivetta does neither. On xFIP, he consistently underperforms it, because he gives up a lot of hard contact besides the myriad other problems with his stuff quality and pitching style.
  18. But some do it. Cleveland, TBR and Oakland develop a lot of good starting pitching. All low-budget teams. Coincidence?
  19. The Rodon footnote is correct and noted. Otherwise, Urias' peripherals, velocity and statcast data all post a worrying picture (so far) to me. I'd hard pass on both.
  20. But you're not using ERA, you're using xFIP, which Pivetta underperforms consistenly anyway. We have to compare apples to apples.
  21. Building a sustainable pipeline of any type of player is hard, but SP is probably the hardest. It takes time.
  22. On that front, I highly recommend reading The Athletic's analysis on the improvements regarding the Red Sox' player development system. Shines a light on the efforts being made to improve players in general, but pitchers (Drohan is featured prominently) specifically.
  23. No, he would not be.
