  1. UPDATE, 12-4-07 at 2:04pm: According to Sean McAdam, the Twins will also meet with the Angels this afternoon to discuss Santana. The Twins would want Jered Weaver and Brandon Wood for starters. McAdam says the Red Sox and Twins haven't spoken since this morning. Meanwhile Joe Christensen says there's lobby buzz about the Red Sox/Twins deal becoming a 5-for-1.
  2. 12:50 p.m., from Peter Gammons • The Twins and Red Sox are supposed to meet this afternoon to continue discussions on the Johan Santana deal. Sources indicate the Twins are still trying to decide between a 3-for-1 trade for center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury, infielder Jed Lowrie, pitching prospect Justin Masterson and a 4-for-1 swap that substitutes lefty starter Jon Lester and center fielder Coco Crisp for Ellsbury.
  3. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7525396 Wow, now that be a blockbuster...
  4. I still say let him pitch this yr, then extend him next yr. Schill and others will be off the books and the extension wouldn't be such a hit towards the payroll. But whatever, ifit brings more Championships then so be it...
  5. You don't talk contract with him yet. Johan still only makes 13.5M this seaon. You extend Beckett next season or 2009 if he continues to pitch the way he has. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/baseball/mlb/12/04/tuesday.update/index.html Basically says same thing as before. Except it adds that Minny asked the Red Sox for there final best deal that included Lester. Said something should get done by today.
  6. We all know how good teams look on paper, they still have to play the game, I would say our chances increase.
  7. To get the best LH pitcher in baseball, and not give up your 2 biggest prospects is big. But it was said earlier before all the meetings that the Twins had a history of getting lower level prospects instead of the main guys.
  8. Ya i don't see anything on the big sites yet, and I am listning to espnradio and haven't heard anything new... Hopefully something solid comes out soon...
  9. If it really is Lester, Coco, Lowrie, Bowden/Masterson I will be happy with the deal. The $ it will cost however will be up there, but o well not my money. Hopefully Beckett dosn't get contract envy.
  10. The guy doing the News on ESPNRADIO said the Sox are interested in Mike Lamb to be backup 1B/3B.... I'd go for that....
  11. Any links yet?
  12. Nice Jacko, havent been in school for a long time, algebra is not there in the memory anymore LOL
  13. I guess the Twins are going with Quanity of Quality. Bowden does have the ceiling of a 1 or 2. Lester is a 3 with a ceiling of a 2( small chance of a 1), Masterson could be a SP or shutdown set up man. Lowrie is going to be a solid 2B/SS. If this is what Minny is seiing in there projections of these players the its not hard t see why they like the deal.
  14. Hughes Lester Melky Coco W unknown Yankee prospect XYZ Bowden/Masterson, Lowrie H>L M>C W XYZ value over W is more then H>L+M>C Hahahahahaha:thumbsup:
  15. Hughes>Lester Cabrera, mid levelt prospect this is pretty much what it comes down to...
  16. They probably like Hughes over Lester. But Considering there depth in young pitching the must value the rest of Bostons package more then the Yanks offer.
  17. I love and respect Lester but I'd deal him over Ellsbury...
  18. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071203&content_id=2316004&vkey=hotstove2007&fext=.jsp Sounds like Minny is in no hurry and might call NY bluff for there deadline. Hanky is really helping his own cause... This guy has his foot in his mouth on a consistant basis... I find him amusing... So what happens if this deal goes past the dealine undone? If Santana is serious about only Yanks and Sox then the Sox would be the only ones left. Unless NY re-negs on there word again. Which if they do, there FO will be a laughing stock. There word will be nothing to any other organizations. If that happens that gives Theo a big advantage negotiation wise. Minny will have to take the 4 player deal or take 2 picks when Santana walks.
  19. If I'm Theo I wait on the deadline. If Minny buckles to the Yanks and deal before deadline, try to get Haren from Oakland. If Minny doesn't deal him, take Ellsbury deal off table and leave the 4 player package of Crisp,Lester,Lowrie, Masterson/Bowden and make them take it or leave it. Hank might have given the Sox a bargining chip unintentionally... Usually this stand could be taken seiously, but after Arod thing and the fact they put Hughes in and Minny trying to bend them over for more, the Yanks FO looks kind of soft...
  20. Turner field is rough on RH as well.
  21. Kilo I've been saying for a couple days now that this is what the Red Sox could do. Now I see Gom has jumped on board:D The Sox have made the Yanks throw in there top pitching prospect and will have to shell out 150M or so to sign him. With Yanks out of the way, the only other 2 teams that are in the wa for Haren I would have to guess are the LA teams. Oaklands not trading to LAA, especially there best pitcher, LAA is deep in pitching and looking for a bat. LAD have the prospects to get this deal done, its all in who they are willing to part with. They I think would be our only big time opponent for Haren. The Mets could try and sneak in but they reall don't have the prospects for the deal.
  22. 2B Pedroia 1B Youk/Salty as back up maybe DH Ortiz LF Manny CF Jones 3B Lowell RF Drew C Varitek/Salty back up SS Lugo 1. Beckett 2. Santana 3.Dice-K 4.Schilling 5.Wake/Buccholz Thats pretty tempting, I understand alot would have to happen...
  23. If lester is not traded in the Minny deal, I would expect he might get traded elsewhere. There really would be no spot for him on the ML staff until next season. They could stick him in AAA I suppose. Lester+Crisp for a new CF or C. Would you do this deal for Salty, and sign Jones at a discount hopefully? Any thoughts
  24. Usually I'm an even keeled guy, but if I see one more Fing jack ass( not singling you out Yankeessuck) pencil's Gagne in to the BP I might just lose my mind... HE IS A FA AND WILL NOT BE PITCHING FOR THE SOX NEXT SEASON, Reason for those who can't seem to get it, 1. He wants to close 2. He wants a multi yr deal worth some decent $ 3. He pitched like s*** in Boston( I was pulling for him to do well, and he flopped). 4. At this point timlin is the more reliable pitcher........ The only way Gane is back is if he will take a huge lopsided deal that favors the Sox. They offered him arb, which is risky if he accepts, but if he really wants to close and he leaves atleast we get a pick...
  25. Id say Buccholz being the new addition to the package is iffy, but possible. Maybe Theo has found something for Coco and maybe they turn it around in the deal. Who knows but I hope something solid news wise soon, all this speculation is going to lead to a riot on talksox... ...We got ORS fighting with example, we got A700 wanting to keep prospects over a cy young guy, Cats sleeping with Dogs, complete pandimonium!
