  1. Yes this time its true....
  2. Damn was holding out hope they would take Lugo. What other teams need a SS?
  3. http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2008/dec/03/padres-cardinals-agree-deal-will-send-greene-st-lo/?padres http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/st/archives/2008/12/khalil_greene_o.html Greene for 2 RP? Wow, I hope the Sox atleast kick the tires a bit. That seems like a very low price. Greene has 25+ HR potential. Put him at Fenway instead of the pitcher park friendly NL west, it could be 30+.
  4. I find it hard to agree with Gom on alot of things, but Cashman is not a very good GM. He gets bailed out alot by having deep pockets. Something that might not be so over the next few year with the economy. And like was stated before, outside of Joba and Cano he hasn't produced/drafted anyone of value for his club. I don't think he's the worst GM, but put him in a middle market club and we probably never hear his name ever again. Maybe he has the right idea, but the team he works for won't allow him to do what he see's fit. Infact if Cashman wants to build from with, he will have to change teams. The 2 genious childs running the team now don't have the attention span to build from within. They like high priced flashy things that will cost them draft picks more times then not. In turn, taking the " build from within" scheme and whipping their ass's with it.
  5. I think Youk might be the last to get signed. Alot depends for him. Lars, Papi, Tex, Lowell all could factor in on him signing long term. I wouldn't expect anything long term for him until Papi and or Lowell are gone(2 years). IMO Papelbon is next. While Youk and Lester will have to wait a season or 2.
  6. This is an awesome deal, the Sox locked him up long term for a decent price. Welll I say decent price I mean, it's a big deal for someone not arb. eligable. But this will keep Pedroia happy. Instead of going year by year and arguing over $ every off season. I'm glad to see Pedroia will be around for awhile. I wonder who could be next to get extension. Lester and Papelbon are the next 2 most important I think.
  7. Pettitte doesn't want a pay cut(16M for '08). Yankess have been said to have offered 10M.
  8. I was reading about this a couple weeks ago. I find it hilarious she trys to emulate Wakefield:lol:
  9. Well Papi might be on his way out too. The Sox have shown an unwillingness to sign players that are passed there prime for big money. By the time Ortiz deal ends he could be in line for a raise, not too many players actually take pay cuts. Someone out there will offer him $. So they will need a DH. Tex and Lars can share the duties along with 1B. So I don't believe Lars will keep the Sox from getting Tex if they want him. Some other team offering more money is more likely to keep Tex out of town then Lars needing a spot in '10.
  10. He actually pitched decent while healthy last season. But this guy is as frail as they come.
  11. This is true. But this FO also has been known to go over the top to get someone they really want. Dice-K and Drew being 2 such examples. I think Tex falls to this category. I believe there interest to be legit. But if they don't get him, I won't be crying "the skiy is falling!".
  12. You better pray those 2 knuckleheads aren't making the GM's choices for him. If that's true, They will run it right into the cellar.

    Tazawa

Me and several others tried to point this fact out when the bid was originally made. Alot on here thought it was ludacris to pay 51M to talk to someone. They couldn't see the future what that bid opened the Red Sox up to. That in Dice-K winning a WS in his 1st year, have made the Red Sox more of a desired destination for Japan born players. Even if some of these guys don't pan out, eventually by numbers and odds you should get a few decent players over the long haul.

    Tazawa

Cashman is really screwing the pooch on these Japan players. I mean not even an offer from the richest club in the league? And a small 3 year 3M commitment got him. But from what I read he turned down higher offers to go to the Sox. Dice-K's signing is already paying dividends in Japan:D

    Tazawa

He's young. His arm needs to be built up to sustain a hard fastball. Dice-K was said to top out around 96-97MPH. He does but he pitches comfortably at the 92-93MPH range. Who knows the kid could have started around the mid 90's, and then his arm could have been tired and he had to pitch with lower velocity. He's a project, but he has a nice upside.
  16. The Seattle will not be able to trade them. Thats a huge offer. I'm not sure I do it either. But I was trying to think of a trade that involved a legit top of the rotation arm and a C. Felix has that potential. But has not put it all together yet. But If Farrell has the effect he seems to have with most guys, he would be dominate.
  17. I never said it was exact or a a lock to get them either. But it is a good start. The +2 could be any of the Sox upper prospects. Throw Buchholz and or Lars in there and I say that would be one of the best deals Seattle could expect. 2 top SP prospects, a Veteran Youk, A masher 1B prospect(they could move Youk to 3B), and Kottraras. That my friend is a haul. You could also offer some of the OF prospects, They Sox have some talent there to offer as well. Youk,Bowden,Kottraras, +2 of Reddick/Kalish/Anderson/Buchholz It's alot, but hey we are just speculating right?
  18. I don't like the idea of trading Youk. But I do believe he has much greater value in a trade compared to Lowell. As far a a contract for Youk. Well Papelbon, Lester and Pedroia are going to need new deals soon too. And lets face it, the Sox can spend alot. But they do have a limit. And those 3 guys is going to be a good chunk. I'll take all three over Youk at this point. Youk's going to command a good deal himself. You can find me quoted in a few threads with my " worries " about how Youk is going to age. I think he is maximizing his reaction time at this point. My evidence is where he stands in the box. Players who don't "have" to stand in the back of the box for fastballs don't. if he loses just a small amount of quickness, we could be lookiin at a very different player. So if Youk was traded and brought something back of "great" value. Youk/Bowden/Kottraras+2 to Seattle for Felix and Clement is something I would do.
  19. Do the Sox normally carry 12 pitchers? I count 7 BP arms, plus 5 SP( unless masterson is in the rotation:dunno:) I still think one of MDC/Ramirez/Masterson could be gone in a trade.
  20. Didn't the scouting report say he need to add a change or curveball? He is a 2 pitch pitcher at the moment. Those two pitches are very good tho. Having this kid in the Red Sox farm system might do him wonders. IMO I don't see Texas moving him, they are pitching starved. I know hes a couple years out. but it's not like Texas is in " win now" mode.
  21. Absolute $ Bosox:thumbsup: But everyone should know this is Boras's MO. He over hypes and calls for what seem to be outrageous contracts. Then ends up settling somewhere between what he wants, and what someone else offers. And it's usually closer to his end. He knows how to use the desperation of clubs to his advantage. And when they aren't desperate, that's when he fabricates his mystery team. And then someone is dumb enough to fall for it. Infact the only deal he didn't get close on was Dice-K's. It's because he ahs NO leverage. The only choice he had was let Dice-K sign the lower vaule deal that was offered, or watch Dice-K return to Japan. Like I have said before, the only way to beat someone like Boras is not to deal with him. But if yo decide not to deal with him, someone else will and he knows it.
  22. Donald Fehr says hello.
  23. Any teams out there desperate enough? The Yanks can only hope.
  24. If there is a need for him, then yes. But if the Sox are holind strong pitching wise, I don't see the point in trying to make room for him.
