  1. I really hope the Sox stay calm and stick to the plan. If we waste money on Burnett I'm going to be pissed.
  2. Have fun spending 15 per on a guy who if handled right, you "might keep healthy." We have one of those. They are maddening.
  3. Haha Jeter could play defense when he was younger. He was overrated defensively but its hard not to be overrated when even the media is likening you to Mays in the infield.
  4. Well, there WAS that year that Auburn got snubbed for the BCS title berth... Did they end up losing their bowl game anyway? I can not remember.
  5. It made perfect sense for the Sox to resign Petey first out of everyone. He has shown in the past that he is a pretty selfless guy (note the ASU scholarship forfeit the chance to win). Suddenly the MVP of the league is signing for low money in a recession that many fear will become a depression. I know age and years of service matter, but this still is not a god sign for other free agentsand players looking for big extensions- Youk included
  6. Wow they really backloaded it. I wish they had done more of it up front. I know its a little unconventional from a finance standpoint though.
  7. Youk is far more important than Paps, IMO
  8. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3741730 The Red Sox rewarded their newest MVP with an extension Wednesday. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia has signed a six-year, $40.5 million extension with Boston through 2014 with a club option for the 2015 season, ESPN's Peter Gammons is reporting. Generously listed at 5-foot-9, Pedroia has quickly piled up a huge stack of hardware. Besides being named the AL's MVP, he also won the Gold Glove and the Silver Slugger this offseason. He was the 2007 AL Rookie of the Year and capped off that season with a World Series ring. "I had to overcome a lot of things to prove people wrong, and so far I've done that," the 25-year-old Pedroia said on a conference call from his home in Arizona after he won the MVP award. "I have to find a way to have that edge." Pedroia led the AL in hits, runs and doubles in helping the Red Sox win the wild-card berth. He batted .326 with 17 home runs and 83 RBIs and also stole 20 bases. Pedroia became a fan favorite at Fenway Park with his scrappy approach. In a lineup depleted by injuries to David Ortiz, Mike Lowell and J.D. Drew and the midseason trade of Manny Ramirez, Pedroia took his hearty hacks wherever needed -- while he usually batted second, he also hit leadoff and cleanup. Nellie Fox was the previous second baseman to become AL MVP, in 1959 with the White Sox. No position has produced fewer MVPs -- just 10 overall since the AL and NL awards were first presented in 1931. Pedroia was the fourth second baseman to win the AL MVP award, along with Fox, Joe Gordon (1942) and Charlie Gehringer (1937). Six second basemen have won the NL honor, with Jeff Kent, Ryne Sandberg and Joe Morgan doing it most recently.
  9. Don't even visit Oklahoma? Don't even talk about Oklahoma. Or Texas for that matter.
  10. I think Mayo has played pretty well. Deltha ONeal, on the other hand...
  11. I think if Sheets could ever stay healthy he'd be great but if he can't stay healthy in the NL Central he sure as heck wont do it in the AL East.
  12. Donald Fehr has lost a lot of power in recent years, particularly with the Mitchell investigation. Let me rephrase. Donald Fehr has been staying out of the limelight and has not been flexing his muscles at all. It is unlikely that he will throw his weight around without obvious and egregious missteps that the world can see. I just want them to keep it on the DL, thats all...
  13. That is great that Jason Varitek wants to play every day. How many teams want to pay Jason Varitek to play every day for a few years? That is the real question, I I believe Boras knows that the answer is...no-one I think Boras knows that he's got nothing here. I hope the teams collude to bring the prices down on these guys.
  14. f*** the homeland.
  15. Yes, and health issues aside, I'd love to f*** Pam Anderson rawdog. Not to mention paying 80M for a guy with a 4 ERA How does that improve our team in the long run again?
  16. MJ, Do you EVER think a new idea that hasn't received much thought is good for the sox? Do you EVER think a new idea that hasn't received much though is bad for the yankees? Just change your name to RosyBifocals and get it over with. You'll be screaming FIRE GIRARDI by July.
  17. Really? Agents don't look at the ability to win? The clubhouse? Media Pressure? What their client says he would like to do? Money and time? Thats it. Wow I never knew that was all there was to it. There is no way Mark Teixeira will ever come here now. Damn.
  18. The Herd blows. If Tex comes here he plays 150 games barring injuries.
  19. I would rather spend that 80M towards locking up a power guy for the lineup than spending it on a pitcher who has averaged less than 150ip per year over his career and 170ip over the last 5. NOT TO MENTION... the guy has hit 175 innings once in the 6 years his contract wasn't up for reneg.
  20. "Pitching, Tommy my boy, not 4th outfielders. They are a dime a dozen. It always has been about pitching and it always will be" -written over 50 times (somewhat more eloquently) by Mr. Crunchy to Paradisecity I understand your concern Sean, and Coco certainly is no WMP, but a versatile 4th is much easier to come by than an excellent reliever.
  21. Is a New York Knick really claiming "Street Cred" over a player who has been stabbed 11 times? Really? Really?
  22. Thats too much for a catching prospect who so far has struggled at the MLB level.
  23. ESPN's line - 3rd from top so far: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3712531
  24. Too bad that two of the pieces we want to lock up long term finished 1 and 3 in MVP voting- that wont help us get low dollar contracts at all.
