  1. Seriously though? Its like, doesn't SOMEONE understand how PR works in his camp? Or any of these other guys for that matter? Ever see the movie Clear and Present Danger? The President has close ties to a domestic drug lord, and Harrison Ford's advice on commenting on the issue is to give the reporters nowhere to go. If they ask if you were friends, say no we were best friends. If they ask if you were best friends say no we were life long friends. Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa. Or better yet, DON'T APOLOGIZE. Admit you did it, say you aren't sorry (because you probably aren't), explain yourself and where you stand on the issue, and move on.
  2. Why don't these athletes (and other public figures) get that bringing yourself down through brutal honesty about your mistakes is the best way to build yourself back up in the eye of the average, somewhat intelligent person?
  3. well, I mean, he lied before, why not lie again? But I agree, at least admitting it is better than denial.
  4. Well, if I had to think of an excuse, I would say that maybe Clay got caught up in all the partying and ass getting he enjoyed from helping his team win a World Series and pitching a no hitter as a rookie. Both of these obstacles are likely to be recurring for Buchholz, while Hughes will probably not have to worry about either one in his career. So I can understand why you think Hughes may have an easier time.
  5. A surgery candidate? I am surprised that the Sox haven't already signed him.
  6. I think she's very attractive. Those high heels make her look funny though!
  7. the 16 yearolds overseas don't count, Gom

  9. They should pay Tek 5 million dollars to sit in the first row behind home and call the game, so that somebody else can actually do the playing part.
  10. We have a few arms that are ready in the pen/minors.
  11. Thats not a bad argument. Here's a question for you. If you were the red sox and you could either have Mark Teixeira for 8 years at 180 Million or Berkman for 3 , Plus Smoltz, Penny, Baldelli, and Saito, for 1 with an extra 13 million per year for 7 years and and extra 23 for 5 to have the flexibility to sign players later rather than be locked in For close to the same price ( I am assuming since we are hypothesizing that Lance is a salary dump we will give up a little talent but under par of fair trade, so this would be the only cost in excess of Teixeira's contract) Which would you want?
  12. MJ- your argument is that a 29 year old Teixeira is better than a 33 year old Berkman, though the numbers don't back you up. So you are using his age. If they had the same length deals, or even close, you might have a point. But they are vastly different deals, the player proving he can hit at 32, and having only 3 years left on his deal. I don't think your argument holds much water.
  13. If you are going to look at age you need to look at contract length. I believe Berkman's is up until 2011, which makes his age much less of a factor. He would be a Red Sox less than 3 years, given no extension as part of the deal. His age is a red herring. It is actually an advantage over Teixeira because is he LESS risky by being under contract for fewer years (not to mention about half the dollars).
  14. Somebody SHOULD sue Manny.
  15. I don't mean to say that the team's success hinges on Lowell's health. What I mean is, if the Red Sox are unlucky as a team in the first half of the year and Mike Lowell is also hurt for the majority of the first half (which would be part of that bad luck, if you consider it luck), there is a chance we will be out of the race. Preseason expectations and past results are not the be-all end-all barometer for success.
  16. Not trying to be the harbinger of doom here, but If Lowell is hurt, there is a chance that WE will be out of it at the deadline.
  17. Name me a big man with Ortiz's body type that is successful late in his career and for every one I'll name you 1 that is fallen off. And comparing Frank Thomas' body to David Ortiz is like comparing David Ortiz to Mo Vaughn. The only similariities are that they are large. I'm not saying Ortiz won't be his old self again, I am just saying that there is a distinct possibility given his age, size, and injuries.
  18. Interesting... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3829924 ALBANY, N.Y. -- An official said Tuesday that a New York Assembly committee investigating the use of millions of dollars in public funding to build the new Yankee Stadium has issued subpoenas to the team's president and an official with the city economic development office. The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the subpoenas haven't been announced. The subpoenas compel Yankees president Randy Levine and Seth Pinsky of the city Economic Development Corp. to attend a hearing Wednesday. Pinsky's group is helping the team get public funding. A Levine spokeswoman said Levine has been told he would be subpoenaed but hasn't yet received it. There was no immediate comment from Pinsky's spokeswoman
  19. What do you mean? Please clarify here.
  20. I understand that grabbing a major league catcher makes signing Tek much less of a priority, but I guess the question is, where else would he go if we don't sign him? Who will give up a first rounder to sign him? And at the price a team would pay to make that first rounder worth it, wouldn't we probably sign him on top of what we would already have?
  21. I hate Brett Favre.
  22. The first thing that I thought was "I wonder if the twins will finally spend some f***ing money now?"
  23. I didn't realize that Milton Bradley was pitching these days!
