  1. 50. The league is going to make the Orioles forfeit all of their games against us on account of our Red Sox being so friggin awesome. JD Drew is going to play in 160 games next year and bat .450. Thats a FACT. Its science And if you don't agree, then you are just a stubborn, sourpuss chicken little.
  2. Dojji - its ok to be optimistic, which is what you are being. Everyone has a different mindset. Thats what you dont seem to get.
  3. Decade? I thought we had already pencilled Lars in for 20 years.
  4. This is reasonable, IMO. Do you think we have the best team in the East next year, looking right now at the lineups?
  5. Nobody is conceding anything. But nobody is acting like this team is better than the others in our division...nobody except you. Its great that you have the belief that this team stacks up better. But to get frustrated and essentially question the loyalty of those who disagree with you with their OPINIONS and not statements determined by themselves to be facts, is just plain moronic.
  6. Really? So this opinion is true? Your opinion is a fact now? This is interesting, because the rest of us are stating our opinions as...opinions. Which you don't seem to allow. REMAIN CALM!!! ALL IS WELL!!!! ALL IS WELL!!!!
  7. Yes, it IS. It is a kock on their durability. The Sox have a lot of fragile hitters of recent- Ortiz, Drew, Lowell specifically. If you don't believe that then I have a sweet pair of rose colored pants to sell you that will match your glasses perfectly.
  8. Exactly. It isn't....EITHER WAY. They weren't unlucky. They weren't lucky either. If you truly believe luck can have such a huge effect on the game over the course of an entire season sans injuries, what the hell do you watch it for? "Gee, I really can't wait to root for my team to get lucky this year!???" They were a well managed team with the ability to win close games based on their speed, run manufacturing, and solid bullpen. I'm not sure how this changes next year.
  9. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/teams/rays/injuries.html Not to mention that they have more talent on the way, and players who only contributed more as the season progressed (the relief core, longoria, etc)
  10. What made them lucky? Are you forgetting the stars that they played without for extended periods?
  11. There is nothing wrong with being brave about it. There is nothing wrong with looking at it as it is either, which is where your issue exists. I can cheer for my team and hope we do well and watch it unfold but I don't need to have a blind faith about it to be a fan, or a good one at that.
  12. I don't believe we are the Cleveland Guardians or the Mariners. I believe we will be one of the top 5 teams in baseball. I also believe we play in the toughest division, in which 3 of the top 5 teams in baseball play. I'm just being objective. We could win. Will we? Maybe. But I believe our chances next year won't be as good as our chances were this year unless something substantial happens, and Brad Penny and a spring training invitee aint cuttin' it.
  13. Why don't you take an subjective statement that tries to look objectively at the issue (that you brought up as an argument point) as it is next time instead of picking words and sentence fragments that suit your argument and paint me in a different light than the one in which I painted myself.
  14. Nice quote change. Nothing like making it seem completely negative and removing all positive pieces. Do you work as a blurb editor for Hollywood movies or something? Christ...
  15. Yeah, I forgot health concerns. We may be in first place, or we may be 10 back by the break, in all honesty.
  16. I don't think we are that bad. I also don't think we are as good as you say. Our lineup is strong, but it is no longer the force it ws in 2003-2007. There are fewer phenominal bats and more definitive holes (C, primarily). This is a tough lineup, but no longer a lineup to be feared. Lets forget the Yankees for a second, and remember that there is a certain team in Florida that will have something to say about our dominance in the East. Honestly, I have no problem not making the playoffs for a year or (god help us) two if it means setting the future of the sox up for the long term. I think that may prove itself to be the case this year. Focus on building, and if we look good at the break, make a move.
  17. IF you look at Youk's numbers Dojji, with the exception of last year he hits very well out the gate and drops significantly after the all star break. He is THE candidate for wearing down. I can see how some hitters could benefit from this, but I don't see Youk being helped at all. To the contrary, I see quite the opposite.
  18. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3793685 With the exception of last year, Youk's numbers have always tanked in the second half due to what some people cite as exhaustion from concentrating and working so hard. I can't see this helping: Add Kevin Youkilis' name to the list of players reportedly set to play in the World Baseball Classic this March. The Boston Red Sox infielder will accept an invitation to play on Team USA, the Boston Globe reported on Friday. Dustin Pedroia, the reigning American League Most Valuable Player from the Red Sox, told WEEI.com last week that he would be on the U.S. team. Others who have reportedly committed to playing for Team USA include Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees, David Wright of the New York Mets, Brian McCann and Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves, Grady Sizemore of the Cleveland Guardians and John Lackey of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The U.S. team will begin play March 7 against Canada in Toronto. The semifinals and finals are set for Dodger Stadium March 21-13. Rosters will be officially set early next year. Davey Johnson is the team's manager.
  19. No, I called the yankees spending 250M and then asking the public for 200 more within the same week a s***** ass argument in response to other league executives. You responded with one of the stupidest posts you could and managed to insult Neil Diamond and Bob Marley in the same sentence. Its called "defending yourself with facts instead of songs and pictures". Try it sometime. Or just stick to your worthless posts. At least the color of your posts doesn't match the contents anymore.
  20. Hey- I tried to be unbiased. I originally wrote one sentence. Not even a sentence- a fragment. Then was insulted by UB40 who essentially told me that I was naive and ignorant, then after putting him in his rightful and uneducated place was told (by you) to stop talking about it because I was wrong- and if you'll read my last post here before this one, its about as unbiased as it gets. I get them doing it. I dont get people wondering why I am pissed off about it (everyone should be) and saying its ridiculous. It IS ridiculous- for almost EVERY team that does it (some it makes sense for, but not ones who are the leading spender in their job field, have the largest TV market in the nation and have the highest ticket revenue by far in the game). Most well known sports team in nation (maybe cowboys but with immigration influx I'd argue yanks) + Quarter of a billion in spending in one week + Most Expensive Ballpark created already subsidized and funded with local and national tax dollars + Asking for 200M over what they'd already received in the same week as their spending = Context See: GM flying by private jet to ask congress for billions because they can't run their company profitably.
  21. Oh no Gom. I agree with you completely that if I were a business and it was legal I would try to do it. The firs tthing they teach you in B school is that as a manager your priority is to maximize return to your investors. But that certainly doesn't mean that we as those that are getting fleeced shouldnt be upset about it. Thats how these things work. If those being robbed never complain they'll keep getting robbed. As far as the main argument against the yankees- the entire point was a response to UB40's quote about how the the yankees could argue against those saying their spending spree was bad business during an economy such as this : The Yankees, however, contend they have $88 million coming off their payroll and will have a lower payroll in 2009. Plus, they are moving into a new stadium that promises to keep their revenues high. - page 12 of this thread. I just think its pathetic and when they actually use the stadium as a reason to JUSTIFY the spending it is both ironic and ridiculous. They are just using the system- and when it comes down to it in the end it is the system's fault, and ours for not whining enough to have it changed, just as every law and rule essentially comes down to the public's outcry. But in using this system they are being bitches about everything else involved, and making themselves look very bad to those who understand the financials behind it.
  22. BTW, notice that corporation the man speaking sounds like he is on an educational council but the last word on his firm's title is in fact "corporation"... AKA this man is a lobbyist.
  23. http://www.foxbusiness.com/video-search/m/21333813/yankee-stadium-bond-funding.htm Its not that they receive direct federal funding in the form of cash- its that the federal government, WE, as taxpayers, are in effect subsidizing this (which in its own way, is an indirect source of funding in that it lowers the price paid putting the toll on the taxpayers). WE help fund it. The dumb chick with boobs who can't even say the name of your team right gets it. Do you?
  24. Poor Manny, huh Sean? No offense, but all Manny apologists pretty much lost any sort of "Poor Manny" defense as he sat in Fenway's dugout smiling, holding a "Trade me for Brett Favre" sign, laughing at the big funny joke. Poor Manny ********.
  25. I believe that Teixeira's name breaking the "i before e" rule not once but TWICE, should be two more strikes against the idea of signing him.
