  1. A. Love him or hate him, the Boss was a great owner. He rebuilt that franchise from the ash pile of the 1960's B. Fred is a great Red Sox fan. Anyone questioning his fandom is a major jackass. C. While in his current mood, I feel sorry for anyone taken into custody by SCM.
  2. SCM, I understand and can relate to everything in your rant, except that I disagree that a real fan can't be a white collar.
  3. Yes. If this is the finished product, it will be a disappointing season.
  4. Porcello is similar to Bronson Arroyo when we traded him. All we got in return was that trainwreck Wily No Pena. Maybe we overpaid for Porcello.
  5. It was a great move holding onto Bradley and Middlebrooks over the last couple of years.
  6. Thanks for the information. It doesn't seem like you could get much in return if you have to trade them with restrictions. I just don't remember rule 5 guys being traded except from the team they were taken from.
  7. I get the Miley and Porcello acquisitions. Rotations need innings eaters. I don't get the Masterson signing. He seems like damaged goods and his innings dropped off last year. Did they get him to be a rehab partner for Buch. As it stands now, this rotation will not scare anyone except Red Sox fans. More work needs to be done.
  8. They have picked up a 3,4 and 5 to go with a pair of 5's in Buchholz and Kelly. Even if one of this group steps up as a #2, it leaves this rotation as very average at best. Lineups will not fear coming to town to take their cuts at any of these guys. What I have read about Masterson is not good. HIs velocity is down. He is 29 and while that is not old he is not a young kid who is still developing. Article makes his acquisition sound like a Dumpster Dive.
  9. Can they do that with a Rule 5 player. I thought you had 3 options-- keep him on the ML Roster for the entire season, give him back to the team that you took him from or trade with the team you took him from to keep him if you send him to the minors.
  10. Miley, Porcello and Masterson. I don't know if this is a great strategy.
  11. I can bring the goods. I don't take you as sarcastic.
  12. Getting innings eaters may be as important as anything else when building a staff. If you can get 800 to 900 innings out of your starting 5, you will probably have a very successful season. Buch has been a make it or break it type guy for us in the last 3 years. He had 2 stinkers and we came in last place. When he came out of the blocks at 11-0 in 2013, we won a Championship. I'd roll the dice with him as a #4 or 5.
  13. Marlins are negotiating with Reds for Latos.
  14. Yep. They like to make a splash before the tickets go on sale.
  15. It's a nice comfort to have a big #1 at the top of your rotation. IT pretty much ensures against long damaging losing streaks. For years Pedro was the guy, then it was Pedro/Schilling and Schilling/Beckett. Going into 2013 there was no consensus that Lester was a stopper typ #1, but he emerged as such a pitcher. Maybe Miley can emerge as such guy. He had been a very big prospect a few years back and he has pitched well for a lousy team. Maybe if we addd another 200 inning guy below ace level we will be fine. Of course having an ace is more comforting.
  16. After adding innings eaters like Miley and Porcello, I don't see them going after Latos. They saved a lot of money losing out on Lester and signining 400 combined innings at an inexpensive cost. They have plenty of money to land a big fish like Scherzer or Shields.
  17. Detroit is rumored to be acquiring a REds pitcher for prospects. I will be pissed if they get Cueto and use the 2 guys that we send them for Porcello.
  18. Red Sox are sending 2 players to Detroit in addition to Cespedes. Have they been identified yet?
  19. Miley and Porcello have been good innings eaters although neither is an exceptional pitcher. Miley has better strikeout stuff. Porcello's strikeout totals are not impressive. I wonder how his stuff will play in a smaller ballpark.
  20. Miley for Rubby and Webster is a good deal, but we need a 1 and a 2.
  21. Unless they can use the $155 million saved on Lester to find a top of the rotation pitcher or 2, the $155 million can't pitch and it doesn't mean anything to me.
  22. I don't blame Lester at all. I look at our team and we don't have a #1 or 2. Arguably, we don't have a #3 either. There is a lot of work that needs to be done. Ben said that he had a list of 15 to 20 pitchers that he was exploring. Cross off Lester and Smardizjia. Cross off Sale. People think Scherzer is a pipe dream. Who are the remaining 11 to 16 pitchers that he is looking at?
  23. That may be the a silver lining. Theo's FA record does blow, so maybe Lester blows his arm out early. LOL!!!
  24. He is a $25 million pitcher as of today. That is what he got from a willing buyer, so that was his market value.
  25. We thought the Yankees would be in on Lester. Lefties make more sense in Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are the wild card. If they are in on Scherzer, the bidding will go very high. The Dodgers have kershaw and Greinke. Scherzer would be a huge expensive luxury as a #3. If they are in the bidding with the Yankees, the Red Sox shouldn't even bother trying. If the Dodgers and Yankees aren't in and the Cubs are out, it will not get to $200 million.
