Here's a good article discussing the abandonment of the FO Core Principles. My favorite line from the article: "The Sox were so self-congratulatory — CEO Larry Lucchino just wanted to oil up and roll around in the idea of the bargain-basement Red Sox winning a World Series while the Yankees pounded on doors in search of an orgy — it made you feel bad for the fans of all the teams out there with front offices too dim-witted to crack the code."

After the Sandoval signing is announced, I would expect a trade to happen fairly quickly. Whether he trades the glut of OFers or XB, the price will go up if teams know that we have a glut of players that we can't use.

I'm wondering if Middlebrroks is rethinking his position on not compromising his health by playing Winter Ball? How healthy do you have to be to pump gas? My earlier prediction that he will not be invited to Spring Training with the big club is looking pretty good.

If he is that badly broken down, then maybe they should not have signed him for 5 years. Running around the larger outfields away from Fenway for the first time since he is 19 years old doesn't seem to be the best idea for a guy who is breaking down. He will be playing SS on opening day if Panda also signs.

Other than ARod moving to 3B to accomodate Jeter, when has a big All-Star free agent signed an played a position that he never played before? Yes , he might slide to 3B, but I think he has played 3B in a limited capacity in the majors, but i don't think that he he has played the OF or 1B. And XB is not Derek Jeter.

So, they sign an All Star who is 30 years old and people are prediciting that he will play 2 positions that he has never played in the major leagues? Funny. Of course, the Sox invested $200 million in 2 players but are steadfast in keeping XB at SS. Eyeroll. Of course Hanley is getting soooo old that he can't take SS from a kid who still hasn't learned the position. If the Panda thing happens, I would expect that XB will be part of one of those headspinning trades that SFF says that Ben has in the hopper. Maybe he goes to Philly for Hammels. That would be good. Sign Lester or Scherzer and call it a day.

I don't think that he has played the OF since he was in the Red Sox minor league system when he was a teenager. I doubt that at age 30 they plop him into a major league OF. I don't know if the Panda thing is still going to happen, but if it does, say goodbye to XB. If they pass on Panda, Hanley will slot nicely into 3B, but IMO he will not be playing OF.

Hanley will be playing either SS or 3B IMO. I don't see him going to the OF.

did you read or hear that? He would be thrown into the OF and Castillo gets CF leaving Craig, Victorino, Cespedes and Betts to fight over RF? I' m not seeing that.

Tickets go on sale in 2 weeks. I think they will make 1 or 2 big moves before the Christmas at Fenway kickoff.

If they are seriously looking to get Sandoval and HanRam, they don't have a lot of belief in XBs upside.
