I have a unique take on lots of topics. Yet, people think they can predict what I will think or tell me what I think. They are usually clueless bastards who arewasting their time. LOL!! Being a suit myself for a business, I have an upclose perspective in forming my opinion that most suits are leaches and overhead. In professional sports, the level of business acumen is lower than you find in major industries as lots of ex-jocks and other sycophantic types fill these positions for sports franchises. A kid with a History degree would never lead a Company in financial industries in any capacity, but there is a spot for him in baseball. I like the guys on the field. The owners are nothing more than a bankroll. I will analyze and evaluate their performance. If they make good moves, I will give them credit. If they make bad moves, I will hammer them. In either case, I have no loyalty to any of them. Unlike onfield talent, the suits are fungible.

I could see that also. It would be a roll of the dice. Miley, Masterson, Porcello and Kelly might put up an almost 800 combined innings and the season will be a success or they might get pumelled and we have another disastrous season. I could see either possibility. I don't see anyone "falling into our lap.". If they want a top pitcher, they will have to pay to get him-- even at mid-season.

I have no loyalty or any particular appreciation for ownership groups or FO personell. I will go to my grave as a Red Sox fan, unless the Taliban purchases them.

Porcello, Masterson and Miley will be this generation's Maddox, Smoltz and Glavine. LOL! More likely they will by like the Mets Generation K. -
Cespedes became disenchanted when he got traded to the Red Sox after he realized that he wouldn't get to face our pitching. He'll be fine with Detroit, because he will get the opportunity to rake our mediocre pitching.

I could see him doing that. He also has the heart of a bulldog, but with Miley, Masterson, Porcello and Buchholz plus any other acquisition will there be room for him.

A. Love him or hate him, the Boss was a great owner. He rebuilt that franchise from the ash pile of the 1960's B. Fred is a great Red Sox fan. Anyone questioning his fandom is a major jackass. C. While in his current mood, I feel sorry for anyone taken into custody by SCM.

Porcello is similar to Bronson Arroyo when we traded him. All we got in return was that trainwreck Wily No Pena. Maybe we overpaid for Porcello. -

It was a great move holding onto Bradley and Middlebrooks over the last couple of years. -
Thanks for the information. It doesn't seem like you could get much in return if you have to trade them with restrictions. I just don't remember rule 5 guys being traded except from the team they were taken from.

I get the Miley and Porcello acquisitions. Rotations need innings eaters. I don't get the Masterson signing. He seems like damaged goods and his innings dropped off last year. Did they get him to be a rehab partner for Buch. As it stands now, this rotation will not scare anyone except Red Sox fans. More work needs to be done.

They have picked up a 3,4 and 5 to go with a pair of 5's in Buchholz and Kelly. Even if one of this group steps up as a #2, it leaves this rotation as very average at best. Lineups will not fear coming to town to take their cuts at any of these guys. What I have read about Masterson is not good. HIs velocity is down. He is 29 and while that is not old he is not a young kid who is still developing. Article makes his acquisition sound like a Dumpster Dive.

Can they do that with a Rule 5 player. I thought you had 3 options-- keep him on the ML Roster for the entire season, give him back to the team that you took him from or trade with the team you took him from to keep him if you send him to the minors.

Getting innings eaters may be as important as anything else when building a staff. If you can get 800 to 900 innings out of your starting 5, you will probably have a very successful season. Buch has been a make it or break it type guy for us in the last 3 years. He had 2 stinkers and we came in last place. When he came out of the blocks at 11-0 in 2013, we won a Championship. I'd roll the dice with him as a #4 or 5.

It's a nice comfort to have a big #1 at the top of your rotation. IT pretty much ensures against long damaging losing streaks. For years Pedro was the guy, then it was Pedro/Schilling and Schilling/Beckett. Going into 2013 there was no consensus that Lester was a stopper typ #1, but he emerged as such a pitcher. Maybe Miley can emerge as such guy. He had been a very big prospect a few years back and he has pitched well for a lousy team. Maybe if we addd another 200 inning guy below ace level we will be fine. Of course having an ace is more comforting.

After adding innings eaters like Miley and Porcello, I don't see them going after Latos. They saved a lot of money losing out on Lester and signining 400 combined innings at an inexpensive cost. They have plenty of money to land a big fish like Scherzer or Shields.
