    Nice win today. Our offense did a good job beating one of the top 2 or 3 pitchers in the league. I am not convinced that Masterson can be consistently good. Tampa's offense is a bunch of pea shooters, no punch at all.

    I keep reading about our bright future, and I am enjoying watching Betts and XB and Swihart. They look like solid major league players. On the pitching side of the ledger, ER is exciting and I am interested in seeing Johnson, but other than them and Owens, I don't think we have a lot of good young arms coming down the pike. We seem to suck at drafting and developing pitchers.

    5 runs against Archer is a very good job by the offense. Their D didn't give away anything.

    Archer is in a tough spot with Panda at the plate and 1st and 3rd with 1 out. We could break it open here.

    Yep, Archer is carving up the rest of them pretty good. He has 9 k's now.

    I think the hitters deserve the credit. Archer has 8 k's in the 5 th inning. It's hard to say that he doesn't have it today.

    Ortiz takes Archer deep! He will hit close to 30 bombs. He is not the problem.

    Three home runs and 4 runs of Archer. The offense did its job. It is up to our pitching now. I noticed that Masterson hit 91 last inning.

    d'Aza with a home run. Two home runs against Archer. That is rare. If you get a couple of 3 runs against this guy, that is about as good as you will do. Your pitching has to be good to beat the Rays when Archer pitches.

    Napoli gets himself thrown out of the game - probably doesn't want to face Archer anymore.

    Panda with the opposite field home run down the line inside the pole. That was a good tailing pitch by Archer that didn't look like it was hit very hard.

    I didn't notice anything hitting 90.

    Okay, before the first inning starts, all I need to see is whether Masterson can hit 90 on the gun. If he cant, this is just a waste of time and Masterson is toast. Just cut him and move on.

    Lol the Rays pitcher that shut us down yesterday was sent to the minors to make room for Grady Sizemore.

    The was a day recently where 6 pitchers were credited with Quality Starts, but also lost the game.

    Yes, but the 107 is a dry heat so it is not as bad as the number indicates. Our stink is a steaming pile.

    The guy was clearly nuts, but science can't decide whether Dinosaurs were reptiles or more like birds or whether they were slow and plodding or fast and agile. Even highly educated people don't know all that much about what existed millions of years ago.

    A lot of pitchers are getting L's on their records while also being credited with a Quality Start. It is a very poor measure for good performance.

    I watched those Reds a lot as I always watched many Mets games on TV and in person. Gullett and Nolan were big starting pitching talents and the 1975 Reds had the 3rd best ERA in the league. There is no comparing that staff to our pile of garbage. You are a good poster that provides thoughtful posts and good analysis, but this is just way out there.

    Ortiz is slowing down. There is no doubt about that. Let's keep in mind that he has been a hitting god for years. He wasn't just good or very good. He was extraordinarily excellent. He will put up close to or exceed 30 HRs and 90 RBI again this year. That is not a problem. The reason that we will not go on a run is our pitching -- they are a collection of no-talent no named bums. There will be no consistency. This team has been hitting for a month now and the hitting is still heating up. We will get base runners and score runs. We will be sending Forest Gump's mother's box of chocolates to the mound every game. That equals no consistency.

    It's probably a safe bet that he doesn't give us a quality start. BTW, a QS needs to be redefined in a post steroid age. Six innings and 3 Runs is a 4.5 ERA -- basically you suck. That is not quality. They need to add an inning or subtract a run or both. It is a meaningless stat. Here's one that should generate some debate. I think that in today's game a QS is more meaningless than a Win for a pitcher. At least the win was an accomplishment getting your team a victory. A QS isn't quality and it often doesn't get your team a victory. It's a bogus stat.

    Bring a TalkSox sign and try to get on camera. Some media exposure would be good.

    I think I will call them bright spots. I can't get myself to characterize any aspect of this season as a success.
