  1. Hitting slumps from time to time. The pitching certainly didn't pick them up in May, not even occasionally. The fact is that the team is still dead last in league ERA. The OBP for the hitting is in the top half of the league and better than league average. Edit: If people want to keep blaming the hitting when the pitching is rock bottom dead last, you are entitled to your opinion, but this team will go nowhere this season or next season until they get some talent in the rotation.
  2. May was the only month where the hitting slumped. Scoring 4.55 runs in June and 5.14 runs in April is holding up their end. A team with a 4+ ERA is a bad team. Edit: Plus, my post referenced only the last month, because I was making the point that going forward the challenge will be getting consistent pitching. The lineup is hitting and it will get better when Hanley and Pedey are back in the lineup.
  3. it is an uphill battle, but the pitching needs an overhaul anyway. It will not fix itself in the offseason. The situation will get worse if Buch walks. I don't see any reason to wait to rebuild the pitching. If we do it now, it might help salvage 2014. If it is too late for that, we would get a start on 2016.
  4. today running a team has become more about preserving the value of individual assets than winning baseball games. It was the same idiocy with Joba Rules or when the Nats shut down Strasbourg during a post season run. I was a bit glad when he needed TJ the following season after they had been so protective of his health.
  5. The everyday lineup has been doing its job for the last month and they will hit even better the rest of the way. The problem will be a lack of any consistent pitching after good Buch and ER. The big defect in this team is the pitching and that will not fix itself. If they don't start fixing it now, they will have to address it in the offseason, good Buch gets to walk in the offseason toile it even more challenging.
  6. As currently constituted this team is just not good enough to compete imo.
  7. Johnson pitched to only 1 batter and walked him before he was removed in the first inning yesterday. What is the story behind that?
  8. i agree. We are not out of this if the FO does something to improve this roster.
  9. Great game by Buch again.
  10. If Hanley was in LF, we don't win tonight's game. There were a couple of balls that he would not have caught.
  11. I am enjoying good Buch.
  12. You had mentioned catching one of our division opponents. I was pointing out that we would have to do more than that.
  13. We have to catch all of our division opponents. We are in last place
  14. I am shocked that any Red Sox fan would risk enduring more garbage performance at the hands of Cherington. FO personnel is fungible. There is no unique talent involved in being a GM. Time to change horses.
  15. Cherington is awful. He needs to go because he is awful and JH doesn't want to finish last again. It doesn't matter what the fan base thinks.
  16. He is a pretty big guy, so I think his power will develop. I'd project him topping out at 15-20 in a few years. I don't see him as a big home run guy.
  17. If that were to happen, that shouldn't get factored in at all. You wouldn't know if he would have been a star or a bust. Other than an act of god or unforeseen injury, they should get graded on the players that make it to the bigs and those who wash out.
  18. Mookie is a much better defender than Ellsbury? I don't see that, and I doubt the metrics would back that up. If you wanted to say that about Bradley, I could see that.
  19. He wasn't well-liked-- he had an arrogant way. That might be the reason ro it could be lots of other reasons. GMs tend to move around the league, but if you manage to get fired, getting rehired is not that easy. I wouldn't give the rumor/innuendo any credibility, becasue of how long it took him to get back. He might have been offered positions at franchises that didn't interest him etc. After working for the Red Sox, most other jobs are a big step down.
  20. LOL! Are you really paranoid if they are out to get you? I never believe any of that rumor or innuendo which always coincidently shows up in the press after the Red Sox part ways with someone.
  21. Imo, he has to take the risk if he wants any chance of keeping his high paid cushy job. I we stay where we are, maybe he can get Dan Duquette's job that he had during his exile. If you remember Duquette had to buy his own ticket to watch the 2004 Red Sox win the World Series. He was in exile for about 10 years and he never finished last, never mind 3 times.
  22. Miley and Buch haven't been that bad.... Buch is in control for two more years on the cheap.......... can he continue is the question.... I thought this was a contract year for Buch.
  23. The trade deadline will be too late. If they wait until then, they will be sellers.
  24. I still care. It's baseball and the Red Sox. We still care. Does the FO care enough to get this season back on track? If so, you need to make some moves! Ben, try to save your job. It is really easy to replace a FO suit, and when you are gone, you will have trouble getting yourself arrested-- no more free travel, free meals etc. and no one will come if you call a press conference. Do something Ben.
  25. We are wasting time thinking he can be a useful starter. The organization needs to move on from its mistakes.
