That is about how far a 5'6" player can hit the ball. Rather than pinch running Travis, I would have pinch run Marrero and pinch hit Travis for Lin. Travis is a power threat. I don't understand that move by Farrell.

It's the 8th inning of a 1-0 game and the announcers are telling me a story that AB was a great high school basketball player. Talk about forcing the content.

We will. I will trade a 17-18 kid for an established major league starting pitcher almost every time. It is just too long to wait and too much development that a teenager needs. Unless the guy is 6'5' throwing 100 mph, I will take the major leaguer. Espinoza doesn't have either of those attributes.

Two base runners every inning. The guy stinks. Two s***** years sandwiching his Cy Young year for $21 million/ year. He is a 4,25 ERA pitcher over 9 years.

Can Porcello keep the ball in the park and not give up 2 base runners each inning? You can't give up 2 HRs every game and pitch to a 1.50 WHIP. That doesn't help your team.

If he pitches like a solid 4/5 over this year and next, we have no complaints if Espinoza doesn't make it to the bigs until 2021.

It was a botched pick. There is no arguing that, which is why i don't give a rats ass about how high we draft. Unless you get the top guy in the country, they are all shots in the dark.

We had a crackhead running the ship-- Butch Hobson. I was glad that they went on strike in '94. Edit: Crackhead Hobson was so out of it that he forgot to take his little kid home from the ballpark one day. He didn't remember until he got home and his wife asked for the boy. And Hobson was a highly regarded manager at the time. The Red Sox fired Joe Morgan for fear of losing Hobson to the Yankees. LOL!! And then people wonder why I have no regard for managers.

If DD wins the division 2 years in a row with the Red Sox, he will have done something that hasn't been done in my lifetime. Theo didn't. The futile Ben didn't.

The last day of the season hurt a few times, but then there was hope for the following season. Last place, is just totally disinteresting almost from April. No excitement, nothing to anticipate. No chance at anything.

Watching a completely noncompetitive team was very rare for me as a fan, watching a last place team 3 of 4 years was something that I had never experienced. It sucked, and I cut Ben no slack I might have cut him slack if 2013 was our first championship, but it was the 3rd. Would I rather be a Marlins fan with 2 championships surrounded by years of complete futility or a Red Sox fan with the heartbreak? I choose the Red Sox. There was plenty of fun and excitement most years, and the team was almost always competitive after 1966.

Well there has been the rationalization that he had enough money etc. It is still a very stupid move and there is no rationalizing it.

They were definitely playing far above their heads before this recent tailspin, but if they are buyers at the deadline they might be able to mount a challenge. If they don't add some starting pitching, they are toast.

It can also be looked at that we have only 4 1/2 game lead despite that the Yankees are in a 2-3 week tailspin.

That was a tough end to the season. Aparicio kept stumbling around the bases on what should have been an inside the park home run by Yaz. He ran back to third base and they were both on third base. Yaz gave him a shove to send him home because he thought that he would still make it. That was the end of their chances right there. I didn't look at the season as too heartbreaking, because there was a lot of talent on thatteam and El Tiante came back from the dead to hurl shutout after shutout.

We can judge it as a financial move, which is all that I am doing. Maybe someone will counsel future players that the way to save a marriage isn't to quit your job. He is a dope imo, and needed better counseling. The other thing that makes it even dumber is that any earnings made after the divorce would not be subject to division in a 50/50 property settlement. It was just stupid anyway you slice it, but I am not shedding a tear for the dumb fool, because he does have at least $15 million.

And that Espinoza might never make it to the majors should also factor heavily.

He is likely down to $15 million after the divorce, so even if he clears only $4-5 million on the final $13 million that be an increase in total net worth of 26% for 1 season. In addition to the hefty property settlement, he no doubt has to paya hefty maintenanc and child support, that was determined based on his player salary. Good luck in getting that reduced when he retires. You don't have to agree with me and most people can't even dream of $15 million, but imo it is a very stupid financial move walking away from such a large payday.
