  1. He does seem to have a good rapport with his teams. Also, the teams in TB that overperformed had some very good talent. Check out the rosters starting in 2008. They had a lot of talent. In 2006 and 2007, when they had no talent, his teams were miserable losing 101 games and 86 games.
  2. Didnt Smith have another setback?
  3. Francona also used Allen for more than one inning several times last post season and he flip flopped Allen and Miller at least once that I can recollect. Francona didn't do this with the Red Sox because he had startersthat could go deep into games in the post season, so he didn't need to do it very much. The 2016 Guardians had one reliable starter so he had to improvise.
  4. i don't believe Maddon's press clipping although he surely does. Any manager that hands in a lineup card listing 2 third basemen resulting in the loss of the DH for the game falls short of the greatness bar. Also, his mismanagement of the bullpen in game 7 of the World Series would have had him wearing the goats horns if his team didn't bail him out. Bochy may be the top manager in the game today. I agree with you about him.
  5. I don't do what you want me to do. I love Terry Francona. He is my favorite Red Sox manager and the team was very successful when he was manager. He certainly wasn't a bad manager imo, but he is not a great manager imo. In my judgment the list of truly great managers is very short.
  6. He isn't much of a thinker. He doesn't tailor his moves to game situations or player abilities. Heck, he never used a closer in the 8th inning until he saw the success that Francona had using Miller when the game was on the line.
  7. Speaking as a lawyer, the stereotype is well-earned, but there are exceptions.
  8. It was such a silly question that I assumed it was a rhetorical question.
  9. Lately, he has been our second best starter.
  10. The team was successful while he was at the helm, so what do you think?
  11. it is an opinion, albeit a generalized one, formed on years of observation of moves and behaviors. As with any generalized opinion, there are of course exceptions. People form stereotypical opinions of groups based on experiences and observations all the the time and many are well earned, I.e car salesmen and lawyers. I have formed one of baseball FO personnel and field managers with which you disagree. Let's leave it at that. I have already formed an opinion of you too quite a while back. I could be mistaken, and I can't prove it, but it's there.
  12. The relievers spit the bit today. Farrell might have been a little quick on the hook with Pom, but I can't be too critical of that. Barnes was just awful. He seemed to have completely lost his release point. Scott has been money this season, but he was bad today. I hope that they are not getting noodle arm from overwork. Barnes was a horror show in the second half last year after being over used in the first half.
  13. You win some and you lose some.
  14. The ball has to be juiced. That is Stanton distance.
  15. He is my favorite Red Sox manager, but he couldn't make a difference in September 2011.
  16. As I stated, it is my opinion. How does a person form an opinion as to the intelligence of others? You tell me.
  17. True, and without that Franconia couldn't make a difference. Any fan on his couch would not have had a worse record that September.
  18. I love Francona- my favorite Red Sox manager, but how good a job did he do in September 2011?
  19. He should have expressed that in private to his teammates instead of his ridiculous display on the field. I love Pedey, but that was being a jack ass. You can be your own man without throwing your team under the bus while they are still on the field.
  20. You are entitled to your opinion, but I do think that some functions are more fungible than others for the reasons that I stated earlier, and I think that field managers and FO personnel are a dime a dozen, extremely overpaid and they make little positive impact on team performance which is why I don't support any of them. I always support our players even if they stink as long as they are making a good effort.
  21. It will and it stinks.
  22. Pablo must go... and soon.
  23. They will not lose the rest of their games, but they are also not a .700 team.
  24. Yankees thudding back to reality.
  25. They need to give him an audition soon to determine whether they need to acquire someone before the trading deadline. I don't understand the kid gloves treatment. He is not made of porcelain glass.
