I am glad that Farrrell got called out on WEEI for the stupid base running-- too many guys thrown out on the bases. That is the responsibility of the coaches and managers. A team can be aggressive without being stupid or reckless.

And I am just pointing out that the point you are making will not come into play with his opt out clause. Price will not opt out of the contract unless he can make more money. If he can make more money at age 34, it will mean that the market has exploded and that we had him below market price.

And if he is not worth that money at age 34, he will not get it and the Red Sox will have to pay him.

I'll take the year that he had last year every year of his contract. It was a strong season. The contract opt out is a lose lose for the Red Sox. If he is pitching like an ace and opts out, it will cost an equal amount or more to replace him. If he is stinking, he won't opt out and we are stuck with a lousy contract. I hadn't heard about the Eck confrontation. Price needs to grow up.

I don't think it will be much of an issue with the time bomb that he has for an elbow. I would be surprised if any team would top his remaining package with Boston, but then agai, it wouldn't be the first time that an agent misjudged the market.
