  1. Running with your head down without noticing that the lead runner is returning to the base that you are running toward.
  2. And even assuming that it could be proved (and it cannot) that we did not lose a single game due to base running blunders, that would be pure random luck. Or are you saying that a noted flaw of this team (poor base running awareness) will not or cannot cost us any games? If you can prove the former, I really don't care about identifying and quantifying the reasons for each of our losses. If you are taking the position that a recurrent flaw can never cost us a game, then you are just wrong, and on that there can be no countervailing argument.
  3. You think you are proving something, but you are not proving anything. It is worthless blather with no point, unless your point is that sound base running doesn't matter in baseball. If that is your point, you are just 100% wrong.
  4. His whole position is untenable. They don't coach kids and professionals about sound situational base running, because it doesn't matter. It is good baseball that helps you win games. If it didn't cost us a single game this year, then we were just randomly lucky. Until I see an analysis of every base running blunder and defensible provable analysis that it didn't affect the outcome of any game, his argument goes into the worthless blather category. You and others have astutely and correctly made the point that a single play can affect the entire dynamics of a game, so no such analysis he might make would be reliable.
  5. In that game if we had put up an additional run an CC had to pitch to an additional batter in a stressful AB in that inning, the whole game could have changed.
  6. Base running mistakes that take runs off the board change the dynamics of the game with regard to which pitchers each manager might be used etc. I agree with you that OOBs stat is not reliable. In fact, I would say that OObs is for boobs. And that is not a sexist term!
  7. No one is quantifying 5 or 10 games, but even if it can't be causally linked to losses to your satisfaction, it may have played a big part in some losses. We have had few games where base running gaffes have cost us a couple of runs. In some of those games, we were blown out, but that doesn't mean that the base running gaffes didn't contribute to the loss. If we are down 1 or 2 runs in the 7th inning, the manager will not go to his top shut down relievers and the other team may open up a bigger lead, and that would never have happened if we were tied or ahead going into the 7th inning. I guess this type situation of doesn't factor into your calculations. Your position is untenable as you say, because fundamentally sound base running is coached, because that is good baseball, and good baseball gives you the best chance of winning. If it doesn't cost us at the end of the season, great for us, but they shouldn't be making these base running gaffes on such a regular basis.
  8. Nunez is an everyday player -- not a supersub. He's versatile, but he should play everyday.
  9. I had the same feeling about the team, but as I posted after the 19 inning game -- that game changed my mind. That game took persistence and desire to hang in there and win. So, I think the desire is there, but there isn't a lot of joy on that team without the big guy no matter how many dances the outfielders choreograph.
  10. Why are we still trying to get something out of Chris Young with Raji Davis buried on the bench. I almost forgot that he was on the team.
  11. But weedhopper, you are still growing up.
  12. Is it a lack of fire or a lack of joy on this team. I think that most of the players have a lot of desire, but I really don't think they have a lot of joy. Losing Ortiz was not just losing a big bat, but losing it's soul in many ways. He was the heartbeat of the clubhouse. Maybe that is what we are seeing.
  13. What is your point with all this blather? ^. That idiocy on the bases doesn't matter? Then why is good situational base running coached from little league on up? Honestly, your whole post is nonsense. Prove to me once that you are not a jackass. You have 365 days a year. Pick one. Piece of cake.
  14. My biggest criticism was that Butter just stood there like a mute. The replay showed Bradley confused and looking for help. The ballpark was pretty empty and quiet. Butter should have been yelling and waving to him. He did not do a good job. No one was crucifying Jackie. Some people interpret every criticism as a condemnation of the player's entire game.
  15. Has the storm passed you yet?
  16. if he wants a 7-10 contract, they should say goodbye to Mookie. That is too much money for a guy whose game is heavily dependent on speed. He'll be finished as a top exchelon player by 30-31 imo.
  17. I wish him the best. And I would recommend that he find a good investment manager, because he is never getting another MLB contract. He should say a prayer of thanks every night for his agent who got him a ridiculously overpriced deal.
  18. Apparently the effect of mental errors on losing games can't be proved. I disagree with that entirely. The effect of a bad mental error can be proved to be the cause of losing a game as much as any other type of play can be causally tied to the outcome of the game.
  19. Physical failures are understandable. The players are human and the game is really difficult. I rarely criticize a player for a physical mistake or error, but I am not very forgiving of mental errors. The players should know better and the coaches should be reinforcing smart play and good fundamentals.
  20. Sense of proportion Max. No one is beating your brains out. Get a grip on that bitter bald angry head of yours. LOL!!
  21. Max, you are missing the point the way Bogey misses the slider -- by a mile. Read the posts of some of the other posters who are not missing the point. I am not condemning Bradley as a "bonehead". I am making a comment about the season long terrible base running decisions by the entire team, and I am for the upteenth time laying it at the feet of the coaching staff. Bradley is not a bonehead. That would be Benintendi.
  22. It was also tonight's poll question of the game on the NESN broadcast. I voted "No".
  23. Seriously, why does he think that every critique of a play has to be taken in context with the guy's full game, week, month or career or whatever context Max thinks is relevant.
  24. He's a great player, but not beyond criticism. By the time that ball had been picked up and thrown home and the catcher leisurely looked for home plate to step on, any one who was awake could have walked to 3rd base. He was still heading back toward 2nd and looking confused that Nunez was standing there. It was a major brain fart.
