How many nice things did Yankee fans have to say about Wells last year? Their excuse for lowering the Boom on Boomer was that he quit in the 2003 WS coming out after 1 inning. They say they were mad at him for that. Quitting like that was unforgiveable. Hmmmm, then why did they cheer him in 2004 when he was with the Padres? I guess they didn't realize that he quit in the 2003 WS until 2005. Hypocrites! You tore him to shreds once he put on the Red Sox uniform. We did n't kill Pedro until he started talking snack after he left, and when Nomar left we were to busy with the hot streak that the Sox went on to bother killing Nomar. Damon wears pinstripes. He is the enemy. We knew his shortcomings while he played for Boston, but we wouldn't tell you Yankee fan chumps. Now, he's on your side, and the bottom line is that in the first two years of his Boston contract, we thought he was way overpaid.

After the 2004, no FA was hotter than Carlos Beltran. The Mets won that sweepstakes and watched the 2005 playoffs from their couches. The Astros were so devastated that they went to the World Series. When the Yanks got ARod, the Red Sox were supposedly devastated, and they won it all for the first time in 86 years. Enjoy your acquisition now. You may not be smiling in the Fall.

How are they defensively at SS? Has Graffanino played any OF? He could be a good all-purpose utility player.

I really thought that the aging process would catch up with the Yanks this past year, but they may have fought off the grim reaper for another year by landing Damon. Their precipitous decline is two years overdue as far as I am concerned. Once it crumbles it will be a calamity. I will really enjoy it.

I agree, but I hope they remember to put a little bit towards a SS and CF. I live behind enemy lines, and my spring, summer and fall will be miserable if the Yankees are cleaning or clocks.

I don't think the Marlins can be compared with the Red Sox franchise. The Red Sox probably have more fans living in Florida than the Marlins. The problem is that Florida does not have the economic base that the Sox have built for decades. As far as holding the line on $12 Million, I can't believe that the Sox were not willing to move off the $40 million offer. Even so, $3 million is a very small percentage of 120+. Maybe the FO can recover from this and put together a strong team, but their work is cut out for them. They slipped up on Damon. They got outmanuevered and didn't even get the chance to put their final offer on the table. The Yanks bluffed Boras and it worked.

Championships are very profitable. When you have a chance to make a serious run for the ring, you have to take it. We should realize that these opportunities are rare. Most teams know from now that they have no chance in the upcoming season. It seems a little pennywise but pound foolish to have a payroll of $120+ million but to lose your CF to your chief rival for what probably amounts to 1 or 2 million a year for 4 years.

The Sox are a premier franchise with tremendous resources. They are not a small market team that needs to play Moneyball. They have built a high-priced team with a ton of talent. After the Beckett deal, they were probably a tweak or two away from being a very serious contender for another Championship, and they let it slip away. When you have a Championship quality team, you have to pay a premium to give it the finishing touches. Losing Damon to the Yanks is the equivalent of letting a ground ball go through your legs. It was a major error. The FO lost control of the situation and that is inexcusable. If they can't pull it together and recover by April, heads should roll.

Why is Sox management running this team like some sort of small market moneyball team? This will be the Rocket revisited without the interim stop in Toronto. All we need is to hear Luchinno say that Damon is in the "Twighlight" of his career.

Hopefully, Manny will show up on time and act professionally. He hasn't liked Boston since he first signed, but he has maintained his professionalism albeit with a few Manny moments. If his situation has become so intolerable that he dooesn't show for spring camp, that could really get ugly, e.g., fines, etc. The Players Union might also end up getting involved. It could be a real circus. Big Papi could be a key factor in keeping Manny's head on straight.

Hi all! I have been a diehard Sox fan since '67. The Cardiac Kids got me started, and I have been hooked ever since then, despite the fact that I have lived behind enemy lines my entire life. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and I currently live in Long Island, NY. I have had to tolerate the most obnoxious Yankee fans since grade school, and I have ventured into the lions den for Sox games my entire life. As a kid, I preferred double headers, and I saw some doozies. On the 4th of July 1973, I saw a Sox sweep 2-1 and 1-0. In the first game, Yaz scored the winning run from second base in the 9th on an errant double play relay. It was probably the last good game pitched by Ray Culp. In the night-cap Roger Moret ( a real Yankee-killer) pitched the shutout. In 1975 at Shea Stadium, I saw a 1-0, 6-0 double header sweep. Game 1 was saved by a diving rolling catch by Fred Lynn with the bases loaded in the 8th inning. Again, Roger Moret pitched the shutout in the night-cap. I saw Pedro outduel the Rocket on a Sunday evening in May (99 or 2000?). I make the pilgrimage to Fort Myers each Spring, and I make at least two trips for weekend series at Fenway. I only miss games for funerals and sometimes for Weddings.
