  1. No Kimbrel, Price, Sale or JD, no trophy.
  2. DD doesn't just go for a name. He went for the best closer. DD always goes top shelf. Look at JD's stats over the last 4 or 5 seasons. He is in the top 4 or 5 of all hitters. Price is a great talent. He doesn't buy shiny junk.
  3. Yes, that is true. Stars usually help you win, and that is why they are stars, but on some rare occasions they are duds. That is not soon forgotten.
  4. It doesn't work if the Stars don't help them win. Fans don't like losers.
  5. No, that is an incorrect conclusion. Although it would be difficult to envision the Red Sox hypothetically finishing last in 2019, if it were to happen, it would be DD's fault, probably for doing something unthinkably stupid like trading Betts, or Bogarts or something similarly dumb. As the roster stands now, this team will not finish last unless they go down in a JetBlue crash. Arguing based on unlikely hypotheticals is so weak that only the most desperate debater would resort to it.
  6. That's sick, even as a joke.
  7. Arguing hypotheticals is always very unpersuasive, and this one is especially unpersuasive since this hypothetical will not happen.
  8. The architect of the team gets the primary blame. The manager can share the blame at times, but accountability sits with the GM. Ben did a piss poor job and it take advanced math or metrics to see that the pitching staffs under Ben were woefully inadequate.
  9. 1994 was wiped from the record books. No World Series, playoffs etc. But yes, Butch Hobson's reign was awful, and even as bad as he was, he finished last only once. In the combined 7 seasons of Hobson's Reign of Horror and Benny's years, the Red Sox had more sub .500 seasons (6) than in the other 45 years that I have been a fan of the team.
  10. Maybe 3rd place for one year. In my lifetime, the most sub .500 finishes in a short span were 2012, 2014, and 2015. My cliff would be a .500 team.
  11. Just playing to the base, keeping the peace, assuming arguendo or whatever. LOL!!! The point is whether or not it comes, getting a top closer in 2019 will have nothing to do with it.
  12. Projections don't mean nearly as much to me as the performance on the field. If the Red Sox finish in last place, and there are no meaningful games after July, it is completely irrelevant to me if they were projected to finish first. Would that be an anomaly? Possibly, but 3 last place finishes is a pattern and a bad record unmatched in my lifetime.
  13. Just to clarify. When I speak of the "cliff" I am referring to a period when we finish second, play above .500 ball and still compete for a Wild Card. I am not referring to an Ben-like abyss.
  14. Back to Back championships would be quite an accomplishment. The cliff will get here one way or another. Pushing for back to back championships shouldn't make it much worse.
  15. The players will not give anyone a ridiculous discount, and Cashman’s success has not been in getting undervalued FA’s but in obtaining players in trades for surprisingly low return and while getting the other teams to eat substantial salary.
  16. I don’t know what route DD will take, but I am confidant that he will not half ass it and cross his fingers. He’ll get someone solid.
  17. DD will go into the season with an established closer. He can build the rest of the pen on the fly. Everything else is already in place.
  18. He was the rarest of diamonds— a HOF bag on waivers in his 20’s. Thank goodness Pedro told Theo to sign him. Theo was content to give the job to jeremy Giambi.
  19. I have read and heard reports that he wants to be a Yankee. I am not sure that Cashman is drooling over him, and that concerns me because Cashman will be negotiating from strength and might get him for a comparative bargain. I am hoping that Harper signs first and sets a very high baseline for Machado.
  20. Let’s not forget that the Red Sox had very high payrolls under Benny Boy and managed to finish last 3 out of 4 seasons. That was atrocious. I hate the Yankees, but I have great respect for Cashman. I am thrilled to have DD as our GM. He knows how to build a winning roster, but Cashman runs circles around Dave’s predecessor.
  21. We have never won 3 consecutive divisions. Four in a row and back to back Championships would make the decade perfect for me. Since we are in a window period, let’s get a top closer to give us the best chance at the back to back Championships. Why roll the dice on an unknown in a window period when the team is stacked with talent.
  22. I think Offerman was on Duquette's watch. Matt "Cement head" Clement was a bad signing by Theo.
  23. I never got the appeal of his humor. He must have a great agent.
  24. Crawford was never in that class of stars. It was the worst move in Theo’s tenure.
