  1. I think the 2018 team was a talented group that pushed each other to be better every day. Complacency had no chance to take hold. There were a few player-coaches on this squad. JD was always helping the hitters and leading by example. Price was a mentor for the staff. Also, there were a number of emotional leaders -- sparkplugs -- Betts, Sale, Nunez and Holt. Complacency could not enter that clubhouse. And if they didn't bludgeon you with HRs, they beat you by getting on base by any means necessary. If they had trouble getting on base, they made things happen when they got on base and beat you running the bases. If the offense sputtered, the starting pitching stepped up. When the starting pitching sputtered, the bullpen stepped up. When the pitchers needed to be picked up, the gloves did their work making web gem plays. It was a damn near perfect machine.
  2. Lackey was toast. The most useful thing he did that September was to order the Chicken.
  3. What was not out of proportion was the epic collapse of that team in 2011. The pitching going into September was hanging by a thread and Theo failed to get any reinforcements. Tito also did nothing to prevent the team's precipitous nose dive. He needed to flip over a table in the clubhouse or something, but he remained Francoma -- which was a great demeanor for teams that are performing well, but not when a losing group mentality is starting to take hold. They didn't need to do a lot, but they did nothing. Theo got caught with his pants down so much that he was looking to make a trade for Capuano on the last weekend.
  4. As a barista.
  5. He was a very good pitcher (underrated) who was very tough on the Red Sox.
  6. #5 can be scratched off the list.
  7. Bird and Voit are 2 sacks of s***. Even my Yankee fan friends and relatives don't like that combination. That's good enough for me. Case closed.
  8. You can hope, but Pearce is a solid platoon type guy. He compliments Moreland very well. Neither should be overused, but the whole is greater than the sum of their parts.
  9. This Red Sox team was a juggernaut. No one could stop them in 2018.
  10. 2/24 is not realistic.
  11. This is true, but that ship sailed a long time ago.
  12. I wouldn’t put DD above Theo yet. If he gets us back to back Championships and 4 consecutive division titles, he will be the best imo.
  13. Maybe sooner if they sign Manny.
  14. Yep, and if DD gets a 4th Consecutive Division title and back to back World Championships, he would have to be considered the greatest Red Sox GM. That would make the Ben Cherries’ crowd very confused as reality would clearly diverge from their preconceptions.
  15. Hanley and Pablo were some shiny pieces of junk when they were signed. Pedey was a dollar store mistake compared to the $200 million spent on Panda and HanRam.
  16. LOL! And I have been accused of not admitting when I am wrong. The guy had 3 top shelf seasons after he signed the extension. Whether or not his decline was predictable over the course of the contract, he was not a shiny piece of junk when he signed the extension. Take the last word if you like, but you will still be wrong.
  17. Now, there is a shiny piece of junk.
  18. But he wasn't junk when the extension was given in March 2014. And that was Kimmi's statement.
  19. So, you were wrong too. GMTA.
  20. Kimmi was wrong that Miggy "was shiny junk when he was given his extension." That was March 2014.
  21. That extension was signed in 2014 when he was still very good.
  22. That extension was signed in March 2014.
  23. The first 3 years after he signed that contract he combined for an OPS over .900. That's far from junk.
  24. Hypothetical nonsense. We couldn't win until he brought in the final big cog -- JD.
  25. Happy New Year!!! 2018 will never be forgotten for all of the fun and excitement of the greatest Red Sox season ever.
