KC is not going to win this year no matter the size of their heart, not in a short series or otherwise. The best team almost always wins. Determination and mental approach is part of being a good player and a good team. Only in rarest of instance is pure luck the deciding factor. Getting hot at the right time is not luck and it doesn't mean that a better team is getting beat by an inferior team. The hot team is the better team.

Yeah, that should give us an extra inning each start. Instead of 4 innings, we'll get 5. We need Clemens.

I know this will sound odd coming from me. You will probably double-check to make sure that I am the poster, but I am not that pessimistic about the bottom third of our lineup. Crisp has been taking some good hacks the last few days. He clocked a shot to right that just died in the air in Texas. He also scorched one to SS where Michael Young made a sparkling play to rob him. His finger doesn't seem to be bothering him at all, and I expect that he will rip off some multiple hit games very soon, unless Tito pulls him for WMP. Also, the guy is as fast as hell. He had that base stolen by plenty on a hit and run. Tek has been making more consistent contact too. I expect that he will start hitting soon. He may not hit .280 or .290, but he'll be between .250 -.270. As for Pedroia, his swing looks more compact and he is more balanced at the plate than last year or in ST. I reallly think these bottom three are not that much worse than the Yankees: Posada, Minky, and Cano. Where the Yankees lineup is truly superior is with the table setter #1 and 2. Lugo and Youklis are not in the same class as Damon and Jeter. I still think Helto would make the Red Sox lineup the best in baseball, and the Rockies have this stud Baker sitting on the bench waitng for a spot to open. I don't know if he can play first, but they need to play him every day. Theo should make the call and ship MDC, Hansen, lowell and Tavarez ASAP.

It couldn't hurt if Hinske played a game or two. It also wouldn't hurt if WMP played a game.

The team has some high-priced talent, but I agree that it is not well-constructed. When ST started, I said that the FO still had a lot of work to do, and most posters agreed. We are all giddy about the season starting, but the FO did nothing to strengthen the weak spots like the bottom 4 in the lineup and the bullpen. All they did was move Papelbon back to closer opening up a hole in the rotation. I really thought Helton would be in the opening day lineup, and I was sure that we would have one more quality arm for the pen.

Millar can play there on a limited basis. He has a weak arm and he's slow, but other than that his OF instincts aren't bad. Youk, on the other hand, cannot play out there even on a limited basis. He will only go to the OF when you have less than 3 healthy OF's. It's saying a lot that a linebacker like Hinske is by far the better OF than Youk. Youk is lost out there.

This team will score its share of runs, but it will slump because of the spotty production from the bottom half of the lineup. Add Helton to this lineup and it is a juggernaut. We need another big stick that will work the count and extend the lineup. It was a stupid move to pass on him. Please don't talk to me about the $ after everthying we spent this winter.

Take a look at Millar's 2004 stats. He had a similar but better BA and OBP as Youk with a better Slugging % and OPS. If not a wash, the advantage goes to Millar, who could also play the OF.
